Hi!

At first one advice: All your questions have been answered several times in these forums and you should be able to find the answers even without a forum search.

Now for the questions (sorry, I do not have much time):

1.
commodities_per_faction: In this file the commodities are listed, which are transported by the different factions. For example, if you meet a Corsair ship and scan it or shoot it down, you will find that they sometimes carry alien artifacts, as listed in this file.
If you make a new faction, you can add it here with some commodities listed and the encounters of this new faction will carry these commodities (not always, but sometimes. Mostly the freighters or the trade patrols if you have some).

NPCRankToDiff: This file says, how many NPCs of which rank will appear in the randommissions.
The format is: npcrank = < rank >, < 1 ship >, < 2 ships >, < 3 ships > , ...
Its a bit confusing cause the "ranks" here are the diffclasses in npcship.ini (d1, d2, d3, ...) The more entries in a line, the more ships.

Diff2Money: This file has the settings how much money you will get for the randommissions. Level 20 missions will get you zzz credits, level 40 missions another amount of money. Changing these makes the randommission payouts higher or lower.

LOD is, as you said level of detail. It is used to set, at which range you will see a ship, a base or something similar. I think, if you make it 99999, 99999, 99999, it will work very well for everything, but I'm not totally sure about this.

I hope this hrlps, and again, try going through the forums and reading a bit. It might take some time, but you will learn very much and even things you would not have learned with just asking.

Good luck with modding!
