Blue Phntom Project

Hello there!

Some of you might know me more or less indirectly as model conributor for Star Wars mods like FreeWorlds or TIE Universe, while I'm actively modding in the X-Wing Alliance community.

One of my projects over there is a major total conversion, known as the Blue Phantom Project.

Now, since the project's finally taking a considerably clear shape and since the XWA engine from 1999 is subject to quite some limitations both visually and gameplay-wise, I am thinking to port it over to Freelancer

Although the project is originally story-oriented, it still offers a great background for FL-like gameplay, not to mention large variety of all-new and original ships.

I'm not too deep into Freelancer Editing, since I mostly concentrate on making models and XWA missions. Therefore I'm on the lookout for support from among you.

Since I'm not too familiar with FL modding, here's a rough guess of what is needed for the project:

- conversion of models, which will probably take up the major part
The project features roughly 25-30 new ships(22 done so far)ranging from starfighters to major capital ships, plus a 11km space station. More info on the ships can be found Here.
As for now, a great majority of the ships are already completed and would be available in 3DS format. Something I'd request in that contest would be the use of self-illumination, since the ships do have a LOT of windows, to poit out the scale.

- new weapons & equipment, maybe featuring new weapon models
In the process of desgning the story and the project several new items of weaponry and equipment have evolved. Most of the info on those is still only in my head since it couldn't be implemented in XWA the way I wanted it to be.

- new systems
The project would involve half a dozen new systems. I've got more or less rough ideas for most of them already. Featured as well are some rather dense asteroid fields, Badlands-like nebulae, etc more info on all the locations can be found Here


- new factions
All in all I expect there shall be roughly a dozen new factions with their respective ships, involving military, civlian, Pirates, companies, villainous aliens, etc..

- Battleship/Fleet encounters
- new sound effects (optional)
- new commoditis (optional)
- new rumors and news (optional)

It's not a case of nobody being interested, but more to do with the lack of people who can help that aren't busy with their own projects. Of the several hundred people who are working on mods less than fifty of them could help you, and they are all very busy. The rest are ambitious noobs that use other peoples work to make their mods and as such are of no use to you, as you would have to learn how to code to keep them right.

Some of those models would be nice for one of the Freeworlds Expansion packs that are under development (as Freeworlds 1.66 should be out very, VERY soon, we have begun work already on the Expansions), and we have a few people capable of converting them into Freelancer models.
