Freelancer machinima

Hey has anyone here considered making a Freelancer machinima? Its been really popular in the past (series such as RvB for Halo), you could even use fan fics like the CYOF Fanfic RPG from the forum here and make a really awesome series. (except for the fact that there is no ground contact)

It would be pretty easy to film, as all you would need to do is have a private server, enough guys volunteering to be pilots... voice over guys.... and someone/people to edit it all together....

If this was to happen, im able to offer an free unlimited ftp/website with db for storage/website/forum.

But yeah, the main thing this thing would need is strong leadership. Someone who would actaully keep the team to deadlines. making sure the stuff got done on a semi-weekly basis, while making sure it was fun at the same time...

Anyone intersted post here... (saying what you would be able to do)

Hehe...

Dude. Wheres my ship?

Post Tue Dec 13, 2005 6:26 pm

Well i guess no one here is interested.... I'll take my ideas elsewhere....

Don't be so quick to leave. Maybe someone would be interested. After all there are lots of great fanfics here.

Except from the pilots and server space you may need cutscenes and voices too.

Have patience. Eventually someone will open up her/his eyes and do something.

Hi!

I did read your initial post, but got a mite annoyed you suggested using the CYO RPG without even asking any of the people involved in advance.

Then I thought long and hard, eventually deciding it was quite a compliment.

*hug*

So.

If you really really want to try this..

..where would you start?

I'd hate the final product to be a cheesy, rubbish-looking, pastel thing my five-year old nephew could have painted - bleurgh.

Btw, what do you mean, "no ground contact"?

That's my biggest problem. Without the cutscenes between the aerial combat scenes it somehow loses its essence and maybe I'm just a perfectionist, the presentation needs to be just 'right'.

Okay. Perhaps I'm just fussy lol

Ps: Thanks Neder for bumping this.
Pps: I need to finish my post, it's been far too long since I've written anything!

hows this?:
Intro

Somewhere in Liberty Space the Osiris lay, powered down and cloaked. in the
labs the technicians had made a prototype AW (Armoured Walker) Eagle Heavy fighter, one that when landed could morph it's wings and guns to become a one man piloted walker.

Orillian looked at it proudly, taking in the beauty of the mechanics of the converted liberty Heavy Fighter.

"Is this thing going on the market?" He asked the head scientist
"we predict that it could cause mass destruction in the wrong, namely pirates or (god forbid) Nomads so not just yet."
"call Edison Trent. He can be it's test pilot" said Orillian, just as the Amoured Walker strafed a target range. He noticed all weapons systems were compatible, even mines and cruise desruptors,
which took out the hover system he was told. "tell him it's an Amoured Walker and brief him on the way over." he said to the Capcom.
"actually we found ancient comics on paper and on video in some of the sleeper ships passengers possesions, most notably on the Kusari. they dreamed about these things. i believe the official term was Mech in those days" advised the head scientist
"Mech, Amoured Walker, any name it is it's going to be one of our best weapons against the growing nomad threat." said Orillian, leaving the room

Behind him the head scientist smiled and his eyes turned blue with energy.
"oh yes. but it won't be as effective if the Nomads have them as well"
in utter secrecy he sent a coded file to a cloaked Nomad fleet positioned on the darkside of Manhatten...

What are you trying to achieve with that 'intro'?

Will it result in a graphic story of some kind?

Maybe I'm the one that's confused here lol

Post Thu Dec 15, 2005 2:57 am

Well at first i was thinking that there was no way to make the on planet/base scenes buts is possible to get the interior of the bases into another game, in which we could make these scenes... (for example i have a custom mod for bf1942 with the eagle and humpback in it that i made earlier on tonight (as a test))

i also have a few freelancer modder connections who would be able to hook us up with a complete hud removal possibly (if one doesnt already exist)

and athena i suggested your rpg coz i m HUGE fan of it (ITS AWESOME, finally finished reading it earlier in the week)

but yeah, it really does need a good story so that it doesnt look cheesy and stuff...

what would you suggest?

btw that intro is kinda confusing

I downloaded that little teaser of of sorts from TLR. You know, that Taiwanese version of the "intro".

Maybe the movie could be centered around that Abbackus Rock (or what the hell his name was) person who survived the onslaught on the dark side of Pluto. Talán?

Or we could just do the CYOF RPG as you suggested. ^^
However If that's the case I'm not going to voice my own character. I don't have the voice of an average Swede.

Post Thu Dec 15, 2005 12:25 pm

i was planning to turn it into a full blown fan fic. no graphics as i don't really have the capability. but if anyone wants to use it as a setting for a mod...

Post Fri Dec 16, 2005 6:56 am

yeah i got the freelancer intro last night too

you could say im shocked....

... but it could even be used... since very few people have actually seen it

@ neder: what do you mean you dont have the voice of the average swede

no i meant it was an introduction for a written story

Post Mon Dec 19, 2005 4:38 pm

*bump*

Anyway, whos intersted in being a part of this thingo?

Post Tue Dec 20, 2005 8:26 am

Well, I have a much darker voice than what you usually hear from a Swede. I sound more like a Hungarian or a Persian (which I am, both of them that is).

Post Fri Dec 23, 2005 3:23 am

ok i'm getting confused. i'll just post the first chapter

Chapter 1

Location: Halfway through the Fort Bush -> Planet Pitsborugh tradelane

Trent fought the controls of his Anubus VHF. Compared to some antics in the border worlds these were quite hard. he always flew the lanes on manual, but he was regretting his desiscion this time. he was late because he was stopped by a fighter wing from fort bush, who found a box of cardimane Trent had forgotten he even had. 1 manhatten hour later he was cursing himself for not dropping it at liberty's border. suddenly a light popped up on the dash and his computer warned in it's female tones: "Tradelane Disrupted!"
Trent pulled the control stick hard, and the anubus powered upwards as his computer identified them to be lane hackers.

Activating his afterburners Trent did something he had never done before. he reached for the cruise button and waited while the computer automactically funneled all non-crictical energy into the engines. he streaked off, only to be informed of an incoming missile. Trent cursed again, punching up a rear view camera. it was a cruise disruptor. but it was going fastewr than him. the hud calculated it's speed at 600 knots and it left the tell-tale trail of a Nomad semi-organic weapon. Trent paled. either they had been shooting at advanced Order fighters or they were being used by the nomadsto get revenge. either one was very bad. then he let out a whoot of delight as the trade lane came back online.
it was a race between missile and craft.
10 metres to tradelane
9 metres
8 metres
7 metres
"tradelane sequence initiated"
the missile was closing in now
1 metre to missile impact...
Tradelane activated.
"thank the one above for that" Trent breathed.

He punched open a link with osiris and waited for the reply....
