PROLOGUE.

The bridge of the gunship defiant, a part of the liberty patrol force, was silent as it travelled through a dust cloud in the Cortez system. When a rumour that pirate activity has risen lately in the system the gouvernment was forced to act to apease the polls and, or more to the truth, the rich. But the information that the flight group has been gathering is showing a totaly different picture.
The viewscreen onboard the defiant captured the attention of all four people on the bridge. A moment passed before anyone could say anything.
Lieutenant-commander Robert Barring finally broke his gaze from the viewscreen.
"Patrick, set a course back to liberty as quickly as this ship can take us. Mark, order the rest of the flight to follow suit, triangle formation, Nathan in front. With Bryan and Francis behind us, explain to them that if anyone is to come near us, they are to leave formation and challenge them to give us the time we need to get out of here. If anything goes wrong, Nathan is to retreat back to California and then to New York, to report to head-command what has hapend. You got that?"
"Yes, sir!" Mark Exclaimed as Patrick brought the ship about, and activated the cruise engines.
"Godspeed then, Godspeed." Robert fell stiffly into his chair. The console on the armrest of his chair showed his ships forming-up. 'Hopefully we can get out of here before they notice we were even here.' The only thing he could do now was pray.

The dust cloud gave perfect cover for the squadron as they narrowed the gap between the liberty flight group. The squadron had been trailing the libertarians since they came throught the jump gate, which was programmed to warn them who and when someone came through them.
"form up, snow five and six take down the leading fighter. Two, three and four, use EMP to take out the gunboats sheilds and engines. 'Summer's night' you know what to do from there, the rest of us will take out the trailing two fighters. Alright guys, lets do this quiet and lets do this quick."

Robert's palms were sweating as he gripped his armrests, they were nearing the jump gate and still no contacts. 'maybe they didn't notice us' he thought.
"Mark, are you possitive there is nobody near us?"
"As i said before, this cloud is a bleasing and a curse, my scanners can't read anything. I have been changing and checking everything, and still nothing. maybe if...brace your self!" Mark screamed as the viewscreen was filled with fire from the explosion of Nathans fighter.
"Whats going on out there Mark? man all turrets. who's our target? tell me something Mark!" Robert leapt from the chair and stood behind Mark staring at the viewscreen.
"Unidentified ships, comming from above, i've lost contact with the other ships, shields failling!" Mark was getting hysterical. Robert could only stare at the viewscreen, the unidetified ships were dancing in and out of the turret fire.
"Do you recognize the ship design? what is that red design on the side of their ships?" he asked Mark trying to act calmly. The ship rocked as the shields and engines failed, almost simultaniously. Before anyone could do anything, the comm came to life.
"Liberty gunship, you are now under the control of the Canadian Alliance. As you have noticed you are now being boarded, if you do not resist you will be spared." The voice was gone as quick as it had come. The sounds of a ship attaching itself to the hull of the gunship could be heard.
"Commander, what do we do?"
"we do as he says Patrick. And hope he told us the truth." Robert slumped in his chair, and put his head in his hands. Thats when he figured out what the red design was, a red maple leaf.

Hmm...interesting.

I'm intrigued to see where this goes. I always just assumed the Canadians probably hitched a ride with Liberty.

Looking forward to the next installment.

BTW, welcome to the forums!

Hey, in keeping with the fact that the original nations don't show up in the names of the Houses (even the Corsairs and Outcasts refer to the Hispania), what about the "Ottawa Alliance"? (There's a precedent for a place name, in the use of the Rheinland for that House).

Just a thought

Wow, Good name, Eh. I can just see Bob and Doug Mackenzie sitting on the bridge, going through one of their routiens, and finishing up by spaceing Red Green, who was able to survive by duck tapeing a beachball to his face.
