If you''re a TLR fan fiction writer, please read this!

Read, add and comment on excellent written stories by fans, set within the Freelancer universe

If you''re a TLR fan fiction writer, please read this!

I just had a wild and wacky idea for some fan fiction here at TLR.

I would like to do a colloborative fan fiction with one or more writers here. The reason for this madness is this: There's a lot of good stories here from a lot of good writers. What would happen if we put our heads together?

If anyone's interested let me know. I would love to work with any of the writers here.

BTW, I'm NOT looking to make this a Freelancer RPG. I'l like this to be an honest-to-God fan fiction story.

Mmmm...Synth Paste...

I'm going to toss in my 2 cents in and say let there be all walks of life characters in there from all of their perspectives.

A 8 man team cant defeat a science research center filled with who knows what that have already killed 500 people....

If your biggest gun doesnt work first then drop it and run like heck.....

I'm a pretty good writer, so i'll join in! Thanks for the invitation. What will it be about? Or do we choose what its about?

If I begin to respond to a question and answer it correctly, please point me in the general direction of a good neurologist and say "That way". Thanks.

bretonian stories

I might be able to chip a few ideas into the pool or comment on the work itself when something's done. So in other words I am interested if you want me in.
I got to admit though that I did not read all the stories here or write anything in this forum yet . As you might have noticed in this post I am not a native English speaking person, which is one of the reasons.
The platform where I have published so far is a German scifi forum, where I have posted 2,5 FL stories (2 complete ones on my own and one in cooperation with someone else) and one story playing in the real universe 500 years ahead. Had to delete them from there due to arguements with the forum admin (posting limitations, anti spam etc). My last story is not done yet, so I might be a bit busy as well. Still many pages to write and a few people waiting for it.

Now that I mentioned it... my stories have the quality of becoming long. I did not hear that many complaints though. Guess that's usually up to the reader. Some like it, some don't.

Thanks for all the replies.

Here's what I'm looking to do with this.

First of all, I'll start off with a prologue, setting the stage for the story. After that we would do a "round robin" kind of thing, with all the participants writing a chapter in turn. The only caveat is that it needs to stay within the context of the prologue.

I'm still working on a good plot line for this, so if anyone has any ideas they'd like to throw in the pot please post them.

We came, we saw, we kicked its ass!

Ideas? Well, maybe once I know what the basic plot of the story is supposed to be.

I'd also be happy to contribute a chapter or two every once in a while.

Honestly I lack the overview so far in which way you guys work, but for me things go into a systematic direction usually according to the following scheme. I just think about what I want to combine

1) What kind of story?
a) Pirate story
b) Freighter pilot story (such can be interesting too I think)
c) Something playing on a station
d) A political story
e) A criminal story

2) Background
Basically 2 choices
a) Freelancer with consideration of Starlancer past
b) Without it

3) If it is a war story (which in fact most stories I have seen in the forum I attended were) - who fights whom?
a) Humans against Nomads
b) Humans against humans
c) Total war including anarchy
d) Never done it, but any new idea

4) Perspective
a) One character (has hardly ever been possible for me)
b) More than one character and of course interaction

5) As a result the setting
For myself goes that my stories usually involved action on battleships. I was too much of a Wing Commander fan to do it elseway. A part also played on planets or space stations.

So out of this it is usually quite easy for me to choose a nice setup. I kind of try to surprise the readers. Character development always plays an important role for me and it is often nice to see how the thing gets a dynamic element by itself. Conflicts between characters and their emotions are a good thing to play with. The more controversial the setting is and the more conflicts it offers, the better and more interesting becomes the story in my opinion.

It is nice to make the coalition attack sirius and tell a part of story from the point of view of a renegade Corsair working for a Rhineland security agency for example.

Freelancer offers in combination with Starlancer a lot of possibilities. If one even considers the actual political situation it is really no problem to make up an interesting plot.

I hope I did not write things by now which all of you already know.
Probably most of you do, but if there is one good thing it, this post hopefully makes sense. For reading everything at one day I also lack the time.

Sorry this is slightly out of context with the topic but Icefox, there is nothing wrong with your english.

Post Tue May 24, 2005 5:24 pm

Well, i think it should be after the game storyline, but not to far into the future.

1)some kind of king nomad survives and wants to get the Order back for what it did to them?
2) Trent goes out into the outer rim and discovers a huge jumpgate that leds to Sol System, but discovers that the Colalitian made this gate and flees to the Capital planets, warning everyone he meets?
3) Manhatten is destroyed in a terroist attack, the Order is blamed, and Trent must discover the Order's innocence by finding out who really destroyed Manhatten?

Any of these sound good to you guys?

The line between our RPG, and a fan fic story is blurring constantly. I mean, there are posts from characters, who lay down plots picked up by posters later on. It's highly interactive, very flexible and quite immersive.

A good idea Neuro to try and focus the writing pool, you'll have many different styles to write with.

icefox's structured approach is very similar to my own! Work out a few critical issues (characters, background, direction), then let the creative juices flow

I'm busy working on the RPG atm, but I will read the story and if permitted add a chapter if I feel it fits the scope

Lots of smileys today. Few more for fun.

The 2nd is very similar to a story I have in mind after having written the one I currently work at. lol

The 3rd also sounded like not a bad idea. I'd for those obvious reasons vote for that one. But nevermind, why Trent?
I am not really a fan of him.

It doesn't have to be trent. I don't really like him either, but.... It's standerd, nobody would know what i was talking about if i made a character up. Does anybody like the name Jeric? Guy name.
