What kind of storyline do you like best in a Freelancer Fan

I just wanted to throw this out into the open.

There's so many different Freelancer fanfics out there (BTW, my personal faves right now are Bret Bretonian, Solar Pilot, Killa and Athena---keep 'em coming!) that follow a lot of different story lines. My big question is: What do you prefer? Do you prefer storylines that revolve around the main characters, or storylines that take place in the Freelancer universe with all new characters?

Personally, I like both schools of thought, even though my fanfics tend to revolve around the main characters. I think that if the writing is good and clean, and the storyline gripping, then you've got a good fanfic going.

So...having said my piece, what are your thoughts?

Both can be very good, if they are well-written. They each have many strong points.
In my Fan Fic Collection, I included two of each kind.

Peronally, i prefer a story based on the FL characters. If the storyline is good though then its a thumbs up in my book.

I always thought of Trent, Juni, Tobias and co, as "someone else's intellectual property", i.e.; they're not mine to influence.

Still, the quality of fanfic's that have them as central characters has been excellent (still thinks of Bret's story) so far !

So. I think whatever and whomever the authors want to write about should be allowed, so long as it's within the Freelancer universe

From a reading perspective I'd say it's mostly irrelevant. The quality of writing and story are really vital. That said, if someone uses the existing FL characters and has them do something that is against their nature in a very noticeable way it can make a story more difficult to appreciate.

From a writing perspective I guess I'm ambivalent. On the one hand using existing characters is nice because people already know them and you don't necessarily have to spend a lot of time further developing their character. On the other hand, as I said above, you have to be careful that you don't take them out of character. Original characters have the opposite problems; they can be given whatever traits the author wishes but they must be fleshed out well lest they come across as being two-dimensional.

I Think that we should make a new fanfiction about mongols

Mongols..... hm. New Kusari faction?

Me personally, as a reader, I'll read anything that is written well, regardless of whether it centers around FL central characters or not. However, one of my pet peeves of fanfics is where they center their stories around non-central characters, and bring in central characters as if they were only minor to the storyline. Dunno... just my own personal preference.

As a writer, I always like to use central characters. However, I may sometime write one that's not central character centered.
