Are we going to get this thing set up or what?

I still maintain we need to have a structured diplomacy system. While wars are great fun, they are difficult to get involved in. The cost of war is very high as well so a simple economic system will need to be brought in.

I think for this next one, to keep it simple and easily updateable, i strongly suggest again that we cannot discover new systems or create new technologies or bases. Do we even have a judge for the new one yet?

@jacob

If its going to be you this time round, here is my msn, [email protected]. This was the e-mail address i gave you when you were working on the fanfic compilation, maybe we could have a discussion on MSN about a few ideas.

@Code

As you have expressed interest in this second one as well and have got some great ideas, maybe you wanted to as well.

Final list of ideas:

Reading all the posts, i'd like to present a final list of ideas. Then we can change that, rather than everyone posting new stuff.

LIST

Abolish VHFs (Then we can make All LFs equal, and all HFs equal.) Yes, Defenders do equal Centurions now.

All choose factions at start. More can join in later, but we should start with at least 5 or so.

No new tech advancement

No new systems

Turn (no money, it will get too complicated, methinks) system (i can design an Excel sheet for this if we work out all the details) so far we have something like this:

5 Producing Bases per Faction maximum

Each bases gets 1 turn a day, so maximum is 5 turns.

Base Classes: (and examples)

Capital Shipyard: Norfolk Shipyard, Alster Shipyard, Yukawa Shipyard (any large shipyard) Can make weapons platforms

Fighter Shipyard: Planets, Main Base for each pirate faction (eg Vogtland, Buffalo, Kyoto). Main base for every faction. (eg GMG=Aomori Station, others will be worked out)

Other Bases: Anything really. Simply generate money, can't be used to build anything.

Weapons Platforms: 5 Turns (worth 100 points, but cant move. can only be placed once. maximum of 5 next to a base.)
Minefield: 50 Turns. Placed around 1 base, makes it impervious to fighters. No effect on capital ships. Battleships. (a force using fighters against a defending minefielded base cant use the fighter points)

Battleship: 10 turns (worth 100 points in battle)
Crusier/Dreadnought: 5 Turns (worth 40 points in battle)
Gunboat: 1 Turn: (worth 5 points in battle)
HF: 0.5 Turns: (worth 2 points in battle)
LF: 0.25 Turns: (worth 1 point in battle)

Battle System:

Unless there has been a formal arrangement to meet in a neutral system (u gotta come up with a good reason for this) then one side must attack anothers system/base.

All the points are added up. A defending bonus of x1.5 is given to the defending side.

Whoever has the highest number of points wins, and the double the difference is taken off the losing side. if the attackers win, they get the system. If they lose, they retreat to the nearest neutral/allied system.

Okay, there are some parts I like, and there are some I don't as much.

I want there to be admins and mods for this.
Admins- 2 of them. They can play, and they have the power to decide any battles, and give warnings, etc. on stuff. They can also change/edit rules.
Mods- 2-3 of them. They also can play, and they can decide battles, with 20 or less ships involved, and they also check people's math on money production, and give warnings, etc.

So far, here is who I have/want for admins and mods.
Admins:
ww2jacob

I changed my mind, having one, non playing admin would be the best.

I am working on an official set of rules, and I want to post them later on tommorow.

How?
I think more would make the game faster.

to Outcast:

Most ideas I think you are right but making all the fighters equal destroys the whole basis of Freelancer. The wole point of being a criminal faction, the only thing that makes them even remotely competitive with the house navies is the fact that their fighters are better. It gives the game a feeling of strategy. If you want to put a limit on something it should be capital ships.

ok no no NO we are not doing that one turn a day thing. it moves way too slowly. we need maybe 5 posts a day being a maximum. That works.

Bret - I don't MSN often...Stupid 56k modem. *grumbles* but if you want to add me I'm [email protected]

Jacob - While I'm flattered by your nomination for me as an "Admin" I think it would be more appropriate for that responsibility to go to Outcast.

VD - I agree. Factions should all have strengths and weaknesses. If I play I think I'd like to be IC maybe. I wouldn't actually get involved in much fighting but I could give certain factions a much needed boost in cash if I want their side to win.

Also, I think that DSQrn should be have an admin post on this one (no offence Codename or Outcast). He is, after all, responsible for everything that happened.

I like VD's idea and structure of levels of military. That seems to me to be pretty good.

Frankly, we have to institute one rule which has been severely neglected: No flashy endings. Especially if you just think "Hey, maybe I'll end the rpg myself without consulting the group" and ESPECIALLY if it has nothing to do with anything else that has been going on.

And as for where we should go, how about NO ALIEN ATTACKERS. NONE. zip. nada. we should just see what unfolds with the rpg...someone posts, another person responds, and it slowly grows.

Sorry guys, but i will most likely be the only admin.
I will not play, and I will run it, because I know the rules best. (Because I wrote them )

Post Fri Oct 29, 2004 9:07 pm

DSQrn really should be an admin or mod tho....

He can help, thought I thought he had "quit" TLR. I guess not, so he can help, but I need to run a lot of things, at least at the beginning before everyone gets used to the rules. But, help would be appreciatted. Perhaps he can do some stuff.

Post Fri Oct 29, 2004 9:39 pm

yeah, he half-quit. homework is getting out of hand at our school...uuugh. Almost made me quit.
