Bertoli Cartel Expanding!
As the Governments, Corporations, and Militaries of Sirius Evolved with the times, so to did the Criminal Element. Where once scattered gangs & independent smugglers dominated, the ever present Underworld of Sirius evolved to cater to the darker aspects of Humanity.
Learning from the trials and tribulations of their predecessors, Smugglers, Pirates, and Brigands from all worlds have started forming larger & better equipped Factions to compete in the Galactic Arena. The most successful of these groups is the Bertoli Cartel of Malta that is believed to be responsible for many recent atrocities.
Incorporating elements of some of the most powerful & aggressive Outcast Families, the Cartel ruthlessly pursues their own dark agenda & quest for power, as directed by the "El Capo de Capo" (more colloquially known as "God Father" ) who runs the day-to-day affairs of the [Cartel. Below the El Capo de Capo are the Capos (that is, the "Chiefs" or Captains" ), each responsible for a different Territory of Sirius (Liberty, Bretonia, Kusari, or Rheinland space) or aspect of crime (trafficking, enforcement, gambling, extortion, and so on). Beneath the Capos are the Lieutenants, Thugs, Runners, and Hitmen who make up the "At-Large" Cartel membership. The one noted exception is the unofficial title of "Gun Moll", usually referring to new members until they prove themselves to the Leadership, but can also be applied to members who fall out of favor with the Capos (which can be caused by a major screw up or a bad day). Gun Molls are usually given extremely dangerous but unimportant missions as a means of either redemption or weeding them out (and saving the Cartel money on bullets).
Like all Outcasts, the Bertoli Cartel is a brutal organization, dedicated to profit from crime, violence, and corruption. The days of the splashy, violent hits, while subdued during the threat of Nomad invasion, have resurfaced, as the News Broadcasts indicate. A new era of Crime has begun to spread throughout the Sector, and the Cartel will control it's territory & profits with ruthless efficiency!
