White ship?

I have exported my mat file and it was working with only the one skin covering it all, so i reskinned it and now its all white, but theres diffining lines as to where ive placed all my textures.

Beyjaymac has been helping me on this (i owe him so much!) and i just ran into this problem, was wondering if it has something to do with flipping the textures verticlly? if so i have done that and still no dice!

im gunna try the good old way of doing it, UTF STYLIE!

I could be wrong, but i thought the white texture problem was where the texture map was an invalid size. It needs to be something like 128x128, 256x64, 512x512, being all multiples of 8.
Might be worth a look?

Ive done that.....................i think ^^ ill double check my sizes in a bit.

cheers

nope, they all multiples of 8 could it be anything else perhaps?

**EDIT**

Just thought to let you know. When i edit my Hardpoints in HARDCMP the textures all work FINE there but i dont load the mat file for it so im geussing it does it automaticlly, but that dont explain why they show yup there and not ingame.

Now if you will excuse me im gunna go cry me eyes out :'(

Just mailed a fix for you.

**EDIT**
This is for those that get white ships but don't know how to fix it.

Afaik there are two causes of this, the first is that the graphics drivers and Freelancer aren't 100% compatable. I got FL when it was first released and had no problems with it, 6 months later I found this site and started downloading some of the mods, this was when I found my first white ship and despite a trawl through the forums I couldn't find an answer(I was a major lurker back then).A week or two later Intel released a new set of drivers for my chip set and all of the white ships had color.

The second cause is using a file type that FL recognises but uses an internal format that the game doesn't support. FL needs them to be 24bit RGB .DDS or .TGA(indexed TGA works for some parts of FL), you can use 32bit RGB if your messing about with Alpha channels. TGA's need to be uncompressed and flipped vertically, DDS wants to be DXT1, DXT3 & DXT5, some of the other DDS formats are supported but those 3 are the safest for general use. Any format that milkshape allows (jpg, bmp, gif etc) will be exported into the MAT file with a tga tag by the exporter but they will still have their generic format with the end result being a white ship in FL. This cause will catch a lot of people out especially if they're using Hardcmp, unlike FL Hardcmp just isn't fussy about what it shows for a skin, if your drivers support a format Hardcmp will show it.

another cause is having two or more ships with textures that share the same name

I heard about that one about a year ago, but as I've not experianced it for myself (yet) I didn't want to add it.

sweet! ^^ thnx bejaymac currently working on the hardpoints and making some minor changes tot he shape of the ship, also my HPMount is not working correctly even tho i set it right, the ship is just sitting there and you can only see the top half, would it matter what orientation the HPMount is in HARDCMP or not? im gunna go have a tinker.

Thanks a billion!

GAH! more texture problems these will deffo be the death of me i am happy to say i can finally get my exporting right (bout time) but im wondering about Hard point textures, when i finish texturing there are no holes in the ship, everything looks fine, when i launch FL and begin looking aat it, all the places where a Hard point is is now just a invisible triangle, are Hardpoint textures special or is another sort of problem?
