Problems with texturing

How do i texture a ship in ms3d if i only have 1 object, hull. When i choose some trianlges and click assign, it says "Please choose a group" or something like that.

You have to split up "hull" into more groups e.g. hull, cockpit, glass, exhaust, etc... To do so select a bunch of triangels and click "regroup" in the "Groups" tab.

NOTE. Actually this would belong to the 3d-modelling-and-texturing-forum.

your textures should all be on the same material if you want to save memory overhead - in the case of FL's original ships they use 1 main texture and then a couple accessory textures for hardpoints and engine grills and glass - but if you can fit all your textures on one material without sacrificing resolution that's the better way

there's no need to regroup your groups(and if you regroup two groups with different materials it won't show two different textures), just export the cmp

p.s there are texturing tutorials available, and really any tutorial for texturing ms3d objects will do - just don't try to do the texture mapping in milkshape, its editor is horrible

Its strange but when i click "assign", it only picks a color from my .tga and textures it. Example: My image has some black lines and red background, but ms3d picks the red one?
