maya

anyone know how to get models from maya into freelancer?

You need Milkshape 3D to create the CMP files for Freelancer, MS3D has a Maya importer plugin so you should be able to import your models direct without have to save in a different format.

thanks, do you know what a good max poly count would be?

Milkshape has a limit of 65,000 polys, but for Freelancer you want a player only ship thats under 10,000 to stop frame loss and server LAG.

Hi there!

I use 3dsmax but i do a small trick with exporting/importing.

For importing into max i read the cmp in milkshape and save it as VRML. Simle model fromat and does the job very well. After it i import this VRML into max and save it as max.

When exporting i got an MD3 plugin for max. The finished and textured model is exported as MD3 (quake3 engine) format. The textures are lost but the texture mapping stays here. The md3 is then imported to milkshape and save it to ms3d.
I do this since i make models and no great flaws happened.

You could figure out something like me for your maya. Use another format like ido and forget the ms plugins. They are only useless crap.

If you have to use such over blown modeling programs then get the proper tools for them.

That site has two plug-ins one each for MAYA & 3DSMAX that export in MS3D format.
