Here you can discuss building custom ships, texturing and 3D modeling in Freelancer
if you're trying to get it to smooth, i believe there is a point where it simply won't smooth right(>35deg?), eg the angle is too great. also you might try rotating the problem-polys (view your model in flat-white shading to really see geometry problems) - also if your model has multiple groups, i think ms3d won't smooth across them in export
Wow there is some really nice work going on here. I especially like the headlights as engine glow. Great idea to add more to the game.
I just posted a new ship on the TLR Texture and Model Exchange

Here are some pics of a ship I made for the Shattered Worlds Mod (www.shatteredworlds.net). This is not a render, just a screenshot from Milkshape pasted onto a cheezy background I made in photoshop.
Its been updated a bit since the screenies were taken... but it look basically the same.

Thanks Cold_Void, that means alot coming from you.
Yeah, I ended up fixing the texture on the side of the wings. And made some other changes to the model, to include making the wings look a bit edgier and modifying the engines abit in the attempt to to capture the rugged Corsair theme.
It was alot of fun doing this model, never before have I used milkshape to texture. After toying around with it, I've found its immensely easier than doing it in Maya. The only downside is its not as flexible and I can't be as precise with it as I can in Maya due to the fact I can't manipulate a duplicate of the geometry in Maya then transfer the UVs for a perfectly seamless and non-warped texture across the whole body of the ship.
Nevertheless, it does the job good enough and is hell of alot easier

I've finally sorted the texture issues i had with the models i was converting from Tachyon the Fringe. Special thanks goes to Bejaymac and Nightstalker for help with getting the models happening in milkshape.

I will be releasing these as a ship pack once i get round to finishing them off. I have all the models textured now, had to realign all the uvmaps which was a pain but i have about 90% of the fighters now. All i need to do is put them in HardCMP and do some icons, see how they fly and then i'm done.
