Maximum poly count

I haven't tried to much modelling, but want to try a few.

What I need to know frist though is, what is the maximum 'safe' poly or vertex count that Freelancer supports?

I did Drizzt's tutorial with 3dsmax 6, I modified the fighter a bit and came up with this:

It has 12064 polys and 12066 vertex points

I have a version that has less around 3000+/- in each.

Tell me what you think (be polite :p)

i think you should have asked this question before you started 12k is at least double the max poly count for a player flown ship - 6k i could see on a battleship but for a fighter like this that would be ridiculous - 3-5k is max for fighters, possibly more polys for LOD 0 if you make additional low-poly LOD's to reduce processing overhead. you see, smoothing is the best way to creating smooth compound curves like you have here, instead of 100's of unecessary polys to create the tiniest of arcs just use a 1/10th of that and smooth them together..
