Newbie with a couple weird questions

Hello, everybody.

First question: Is there something that can import existing CMPs into gmax? (Using the CMP importer in MilkShape just crashes the program at start on my machines.) Or better yet, is there any kind of direct CMP->3DS converter? (One of my hobbies is paper models, and FL ships just BEG to be modeled in hardware.)

Second question--for all the "real aircraft in space" junkies: Anyone have any ideas for converting a Microsoft FS2002 model into a CMP?

AFAIK the only program to be able to import/export cmp files is milkshape.
About the other question; shouldn't be a problem. Get the exporter for the game and then convert the geometry to whatever you want. You may have to change a lot of stuff though to get it to work correctly in FL.

Hum... if Milkshape is the only way to import/export, is there anywhere I can get 3dsMax compatible versions of all the Freelancer models? I'm wanting to make myself a custom ship, but all I have is 3dsMax, and the trial time on Milkshape has already ran out.
Is Milkshape the only way to make a custom model?

Yup, the only way so far to get models into cmp format is to use milkshape. Which is a bummer.

Milkshape is cheap... and it translates more 3D formats than anything 'cept Polytrans... models... animates... skins...

Why is anybody complaining about paying for it? Like you bought Max and now won't shell out for MS3D... <laughs>

Nah, nothing like that heh. I have been thinking of buying a licence for MS3D for awhile, but guess I'm lazy/cheap =/
It is a good program though.

The reason I'm complaining is that the most popular "pro" modeler isn't supported. But AFAIK the plugin was made back when milkshape was still free, which is why it was made for that program.
In that vein though, Gmax is also free and it would be nive if someone could make an exporter for it.
