Milkshape group folders

Hi, I just got into 3D modeling cause I had a couple of ship designs that I thought I could try and build to put in Glock36's Asylum51 mod. Wanted to give back to a mod thats given me endless hours of fun. My new project is going to be a large gunboat, but im teaching myself how to use Milkshape and gmax as I go. My question is this:

Is there a way (through plug-in possibly) to put folders or subgroups in the groups window in Milkshape? I allready have over 30 groups and its takes a little while to find the one im looking for sometimes. A flie organization system in that window on the tool bar would be a great help.

i don't think so but if you organize your list from top to bottom alphabetically it should be easier to find what you're looking for.

The way im trying to do it is set it up from front to back (i have a horrible memory and tend to forget what I name things). But then I have trouble with overlapping groups. My poor little brain cant handle it.

1. Join Groups together whereever possible. 30+ Groups sounds excessive- I hate to think how many Materials that means you're using. Remember, each Material (and the associated DDS/TGA file) will have a negative impact on performance- the goal is to keep that number as low as humanly possible.

2. Get UVMapper Classic, and use that to create proper uv-maps. Use tiles only on areas where they're really appropriate.

3. Groups can be renamed and re-ordered very easily in MS3D. Just select the Group you wish to put into a new order and Regroup it. That'll put it at the bottom of the list. I'm sure you can figure out how to go from there.

4. Do not forget about naming conventions for both the Groups and Materials . Every Group/Material should be named something absolutely unique- not just for your model, but for the entire game! Moreover, you cannot use spaces or non-alphanumeric characters in your names- keep that in mind. The strategy I use to do this is super-simple. I use the modder name, then the ship name, then the part/material name, like this "Argh_ReallyCoolShip_Engines" or "Argh_ReallyCoolShip_Engine_MAT". As you can see, such naming conventions reduce the chances of accidently making two things with exactly the same name... very close to zero... which is what you want
