Something kinda fun...

Well since I got my new pc I figured I would run it through the mill and see what I could churn out. This is the result of my creation and I'm pleased to say that the PC handles it like a dream.

Merc for hire...but only if you can afford it.

*appropriate oohing and ahhing* Cool model Striker-if only freelancer could handle it,or milkshape for that matter - really brings to mind that freelancer is supposed to be set a little after WWIII in space(the alliance / coalition war)-I wouldn't mind if the capital ships were a little more "traditional" like this.So so where'd ya get it huh?You make all of that? *eyes boggling*

Yeah I modelled it myself...figured I'd try something a bit different than my normal designs. Basically its a cross between a destroyer and a submarine...definitely going for a "modern ship in space" feel. Like you said...Freelancer would throw up if I tried to put this in there.

i liek the design Major, nice job.

however, something on this just does not fit well.

the guns (it that is what they are, looks like it) on the sides of the ship
i would seriously look at those closely in comeparision to the overall design, they don't match, they look like they belong on a russian world war 2 tank.

other than that, nice job.

Actually, I am pretty certain that a design like this is realizable in FL... massaging it to keep the polycount low enough would be a pain, but I think it's a lot more practical than most people assume. You've have to cut corners on the greeble areas, but that's what good texturing is for

At any rate, looks good, and the render quality is quite nice- I assume that's Mental Ray?

Its actually Cinema 4d...lesser known of the 3d packages out there but does some fine work. Cinema 4d was used in Gladiator. Its much more affordable than LW or Max or Maya.

That's a really cool design. It has sort of a retro sci-fi look, like something you would have seen in one of those marionette series in the sixties (Stingray, Thunderbirds etc.)

I'm wondering why you would tease us like that though. Such high poly work is what one would see at Sci Fi Meshes.

How about reducing the polys to something manageable so that we can take her for a spin .

EDIT
I went by Sci FI meshes and saw your post in the forum. DOH !!!!!

lol, yeah I was going to mention that. Well I did do the spider heavy/assault fighter for you guys but I felt bad because of my poor texturing ability I feel like I'm making Harrier work harder to clean up my models for conversion into FL. I'd love to keep modelling for the project though.

Major Striker,

The Spider assault fighter is a very cool looking ship and a decent texture (no offence) will set it off, as I explained in my last email re the ship (you did get it I hope?, as it didnt come back , we plan to do it in sorta techno red and black.. lol,, and have named it "Infyrno".. some editing of the text in the base texture will fix that..

We would be pleased to get more of your models, but texturing does take time to do well so they are not gunna be instant.. capships as stationary bases.. etc...

One thing about the guns on your ship.. since custom models can be made to cater for custom weapons... removal of them and replacing them with lowish 'buyable' poly custom weapon meshes removes a lot of unneeded weapons from the ship.. High detail ares currently modelled can be often replaced by a good texture job .. ie panels, vents, minor details etc.. pipes etc..

Harrier
