Can''t leave my ship in space!

I have made a series of ships that I cannot park in space If I do then try to come back to that character later the game crashes. There are no errors in on the server console when it happens. I can park it on any base and come back with no problems. I can see the textures and mount equipment just fine. At first I thought it was a problem with my .DLL file used to store the IDS#s for my new equipment and ships so I took a ship from another MOD and put it into my MOD the same exact way. I gave it all new info cards that come in sequence right after mine. No problems with the other ship. I cross referenced the Hard Points to make sure I had all the ones It had. then went through the shiparch.ini and goods.ini to make sure I didn't have some equipment that couldn't be mounted. No problems there. I converted the .MAT file to .DDS format and set my LOD range to 0,2500. No luck.

Does anyone know why I only crash after returning to one of my ships after leaving it in space.

Is the server program crashing or just the client? The server does not load a bunch of stuff that the client does, so if the server remains stable it will likely be any of those things. That means, it cannot be archetypes, systems or bases, hardpoints etc., but rather material issues.

However, FLserver is very screwy on logging off in space anyway, sometimes you get back in at the same location you logged off, sometimes dozens of k away from there, sometimes just in the middle of the system (thus blowing up in the sun usually).

If it is just the client crashing, hehe, keep it that way, it will prevent some of those lousy exploiters trying to use log-off-in-space to gain unfair advantages over others...

The server bogs down for a sec but stays up. I see what you mean about it the logging off and on to lose the heat. I wouldn't mind leaving it that way for that sake but if it was happening with all the ships and not just the ones I created. I'll take the advice and look into the MAT files again. I know I had real troubles getting my first ship to show textures before. Thanx.

I Solved the problem!!!!!!
While I was using Milkshape to create my surface hardpoints I was not using it to make the hardpoints not directly attached to the ship. I was using the HardCMP editor to create such points as HpContrail, HpHeadlight, and HpMount. It seems that if you don't create the HpMount in milkshape then you will get the problem I had. Using the HardCMP editor does seems to work fine for all the other points. Thanks to those who took the time to reply and try to help me solve the problem. I also noticed that if you apply the same texture to more than one group it doesn't always export the .MAT correctly. To fix this I did a few things. I took all the groups that were sharing the same material (Texture) and regrouped them into one. Then I made sure that the group name was the same as the material name. Most of the time the .MAT exporter for milkshape works fine but I had a few models that it was inconsistant with. There was one that just would not include one texture at all. In that case I exported the .MAT anyway and then used the UTF edit utility to import the missing texture. The .MAT had nothing to do with the problem I posted but I thought I'd throw it in here in case someone else is having some of the same troubles I had. Special thanks to Drizzt4.0 for his outstanding modeling tutorial. ---PEACE---
