creating weapon help pleaseee

Hello

I trying to create a weapon from scratch, for now I have all ini ready,
model in milkshape with textures ,HpConnect and HpFire hardpoints
I have read Harrier cmp weapon tutorial, cant figure out all stuff

I have managed to export weapon to cmp and it shows in the game.
Textures are tga exported to mat file
Gun have two barrels

Problems
1. In utf editor i dont see barrel group
2. barrels in game are not swivel
3. gun is upside down (changing HpConnect position is doing nothing)
4. gun fires only in narrow angle of Y axis

I would be realy happy if someone could help
I want to do homeworld 2 mod but this is for now my main obstacle
THX

The modelling forum is more suited to this sort of question, so when you acknowledge this, I will move it there - unless people in here can step up to the plate to help out of course

Laine,

I moved the thread.. (you dont need to do it now - Chips.....)

Ok, ...... I will try to answer some of your questions....and provide some links

1. Barrel group not showing in utf.. not exactly sure why not.. Have you run Redeyes mesh converter? I will admit that it is not the easiest to use ... but "persistance kills resistance"... lol ....the meshconverter thread is here: Here

2. Barrels not elevating? The whole weapon should swivel. the barrels should go up and down but again the whole weapon pivots on the base.. could it be that you haven't followed the procedures to import the barrel group with the mesh converter?, as they are not listed as a separate group in the .cmp file (see question 1)
Also, do you have HpConnect and HpMount as 2 hardpoints on the base?

3. The model must be upside down and facing you in milkshape prior to export -if you used the newer cmp exporter that may explain why..you need to set it up correctly when you export..... (I use the earlier version .cmp exporter )

4. a narrow band of fire.. hmmm.... several reasons are possible for this....a) the HpMount and HpConnect are not correct.. b) the ship the weapon is attached to has had the min and max values 'fixed' in the .cmp for that weapon hardpoint... c) you have modified the values within the weapon.cmp

some additional info is available in this thread: Here

Weapons creation is full of pitfalls and not for the faint hearted as there are just so many things that can go wrong.. - no offence intended I suggest you check out Arghs tutorial and try that... as his approach is a little different to mine and may help you in your efforts... Then if all else fails post again...

btw... it would have been a lot easier to have posted your question in my weapon tutorial, or in the tutorial by argh.... By combining all your threads into an existing thread it not only:

1. Keeps all the info in one specific thread where it is able to be of most benefit to all
2. Makes searching for information easier (using the search function)
3. Keeps the forums neater - less posts about the same subject

Custom weapons are a lot've fun... once they work

At this point, I've gotten them to go from being "incredibly painful" to "annoying", which is an improvement. Can't wait to see what people think of the new ones in the next version of my mod...
