Converting models to Freelancer format

I'm new at editing Freelancer, so I don't know what programs I'll need. I have a starfighter model I was to convert from 3DS to the format Freelancer uses. What programs do I need and how do I convert the model?

Um, correct me if I'm wrong but I think that Star Destroyer is in the wrong video game Trent[! It's supose to be in a star wars game[!

Erm, well there is making a ship from scratch, drizzlas ship building tutorial and stuff. Logic would dictate that inside there would be how to get it into FL.

But I am feeling helpful, so what you need is milkshape.

Milkshape is the ONLY modelling program with a CMP exporter (FL format), and therefore regardless of WHAT program you use, the model will HAVE to go through milkshape at the opportune moment. The plugins for CMP importers and exporters are all linked in the threads stickied up there, certainly the one by me..which also contains a link to Milkshape. Milkshape comes with a 30 fully functional free trial, after that you need to purchase, but its ONLY $20 or so, literally the price of a round of beers...which is INCREDIBLY CHEAP!!!

People usually save their models from the modelling program they use (although you can use milkshape) and then import them into milkshape...of course, they don't save in ms3d, so people use other formats - quake or something - to import the model. Then they can export it. Reading the stickied threads up there will show you what to do
