PCGamer UK Reviews Freelancer

90% and winner of the game of the month award.

*short applause*

here are some quotes:

"...its the single player campaign that will probably lure most gamers into the black hole of time consumption"

"Freelancer is huge, massive in fact"

"This isnt Elite, its Freelancer, while it does boast a largely free-form universe, it's the story, complete with dozens of cut-scenes, that dominates."

"...Freelancers story is strong enough to sweep you along with the unfolding action"

"But the most impressive features in space are the hugef swathes of ice, space debris and asteroids ... [that you just know there'll be baddies inside..."

"Space purists who toyed with the beta version moaned that this [the mouse controll system would be an unwelcome move: 'i'm not paying attention to anything new' in typical slack-jawed fasion. Well balls to them; irekon this control method is supurb. This isnt x-wing, its Freelancer."

"..some of the most enjoyable space combat weve ever witnessed..."

"Freelancer is an expertly crafted soace adventure. In fact its one of the best examples of the genre we've ever seen"

"Elite Online? Well, maybe thats what it seems like. But we think Freelancer is going to make a name for itself. This isnt a footnote; it's a classic"

good news all round then

Reading this i wonder if there are any really huge asteroids like in some of the Starlancer multiplayer maps. Huge rocks you could fly into and hide in, Jango Fett style..

"Sorry for offending your delicate sensibilities. Perhaps my next film will be about a talking dog who braves the harsh realities of the world in a heart warming attempt to find his rightful owners, who mistakenly thought he was dead. That way you could watch it and get a fuzzy feeling inside and when it was over you could all go f*ck yourselves." - Troy Duffy, director of "The Boondock Saints "

I found a system that has huge asteroids in it. I got into some heated battles in them that reminded me of the opening scene in Privateer. Trying to fly around those asteriods and hit my target was a real challenge. I did not stay there for very long and look forward to going back and exploring some more when I get a better ship.

On the review...I have to agree with PCGamer. The single player part of Freelancer will be the biggest attraction to the game. I would give it a 95% rating tho.

Interested to see what US PCGamer will say. If the UK version is anything like the US version, though, even 90% is tough to get from them and very, very good. Kudos to the developer team.

i'm suprised the US PCGamer hasnt already posted their review, seeing as though its already out stateside and i have to wait 4 weeks for it

I don't think it's in this month's PCG, Freelancer came out like a day before the mag hit the shelves. Maybe it'll show up later in the month though...

but even still, it's SUPPOSEDLY the april edition, so by april 1st or w/e there should be much enough time to get their hands on a copy, and u wonder y they, being media and all didnt get a copy of the game or at least a beta...

altho perhaps w/ all the game mags out MS or DA whoever made the choice figured not to, cus then the release isnt such a huge deal
