1. Engine kill does just that. It turns off your engines and you drift in whatever direction you were heading, and at whatever speed you were going, until you either slowly come to a stop or turn your engines back on.

2. There is no "rolling".

Hope that helps.

Kill engines turns off what is called "inertial dampers" allowing you to do some nice swing bys... think about 2 ships coming straight for you...

- hit thrusters
- kill the engine as you go RIGHT BETWEEN the on-coming ships
- do a 180 swing as you continue moving forward
- hit your cannons and blast the badguys to smitherines right up the tail pipe
- switch inertial dampers back on clean up or fly away like a pro.

I've wondered the same thing. I hit the "z" key, and it doesn't do squat for me. The same goes for using the "v" key to hail targeted vessels. It didn't work in the demo or the final version, that I've seen. What's more, you won't find them offered in the keyboard settings panel.

In other words, "sliding" which I believe the Arrow did in Wing Commander 3... if you ever played that.

For "engine kill" to work you must be in full free-flight mode as well I believe.

And, as far as I know the default for the "v" key is "reverse look" or "look behind" as I call it.
Not to sure since I remap keys before I even play a game for the first time. hehe

It's Freelancer's limited implementation of the Newtonian physics model used most successfully in Independence War.

Personally, I'm still annoyed that there's no vertical strafing - especially since the ship does it automatically when docking with battleships.

Contrary to the common misconception, objects in space will not continue in the same directions forever.
