Weapon selection

Is it required to have, missiles for example, selected on the right hud to fire them? Same with countermeasures and mines? This is, to put it mildly, very troublesome while in the middle of combat. I've tried launching countermeasures when not selected, but didn't notice any decrement in the counter.

You can assign keys to launch countermeasures, torpedoes, missiles, and cruise distruptors. Granted I don't understand why torpedoes and cruise distruptors have different keys since it ever only seems to be one or the other on your ship. Anyway.... in addition to that you can press the number key affiliated with the item in the list.

You can also press C for countermeasure, Q for Missiles. I choose to hit the keyboard number though to fire them, like 3 for EMP missile and 4 for Hull Damage missile, and then usually 8 for Countermeasure.

So this will work if it's not highlighted in your weapons readout on the HUD?

Yes. Selecting them on your HUD only means that they will be fired when you use your right mouse button (or whatever you have set as your primary fire button).

Okay, just needed that confirmed (I'm paranoid that way). Thanks for the timely replies.
