Do DA, Microsft employees actually read the forums

Well do you, and are you taking notes?
cause I’ve not seen an official response from either company.
Are we even likely to get one?

... boil boil boil

I don't think they would have a problem coming here as long as people don't bombard them with insults and give them a chance to respond

then again, what do I know

Pook - abit more content to your posts please...

And I know they are looking at server-stability for MP right now. Also ASFAIK trying to see if they can make save games movable.

Post Tue Mar 11, 2003 11:42 pm

A way to have a universal save in MP would be great. Hopefully they have had some success in getting that implemented.

I seriously doubt that MS or DA employees will post here, but Im sure they will read stuff.

Post Wed Mar 12, 2003 12:39 am

ah well. I think it would lead to alot more constructive criticism instead of bashing if they let the fans know a little about what is going on. Granted the game has only been out a week, but Microsoft's involvement in this has me worried. If it was just DA, I wouldn't care nearly as much

Post Wed Mar 12, 2003 12:54 am

Agreed, crashed... I always thought it was good to take input from fans during game development, rather than keep the development tightly lidded and quiet.

Post Wed Mar 12, 2003 1:00 am

I think it would be a good idea to get them here SOONER rather than later.

FL is in the "honeymoon" period where people are still excited about the game.

If they wait a month to get involved with the community (especially the mod community), it will be too late.

Post Wed Mar 12, 2003 5:16 am

Er, bashing instead of constructive criticism is simply not necessary whatever the case.

Thresh, you're right. But as a developer myself, I can see a number of reasons why they don't come here.

1 - They've been told not to.
2 - They've just finished a couple of years worth of 24/7 work on FL and want to have a holiday.
3 - They aren't looking forward to the bashing they *WILL* get from the more boorish 'fans'.
4 - They aren't looking forward to the awkward, and deserved, questions they *WILL* get from the more stable types who don't know what the background story is to the game's development period. Like how much influence MS marketing had on the end product.
5 - They're busy playing X2 alpha releases.
6 - They've been hijacked by Frontier Developments to work on Elite 4.
7 - They're still reading the "You know you've played FL too much..." thread.
8 - They're using Opera to browse the web and encountered TLR's funky CSS.
9 - They're waiting for TLR's search function to get online.
10 - Now FL has gone gold, they've moved to the playtesting phase.
11 - They've gone to Iraq to become human shields. Advanced Champion, of course.
12 - They're still watching all the movies they've missed over the past six years.

Blub.

Sounds good. As a developer myselfI founded a company that has been successfully (i.e. profitably) making and running online RPGs for over 7 years now, I'll comment on your reasons:

1 - They've been told not to.

I wouldn't be surprised. A lot of gaming company executives are idiots.

2 - They've just finished a couple of years worth of 24/7 work on FL and want to have a holiday.

Well, then they have chosen the STUPIDEST time to take a holiday. Post-release is when you should be working HARDEST, not taking a holiday.

I know whenever we release new content (new worlds to explore, new classes, whatever) that is when we are the most vigilant.

Now is the time when the hype and excitement are at their peak. Now is when you have access to the MOST potential customers. What you do now sets the tone for how well you will support not just this game, but any further games your company makes.

3 - They aren't looking forward to the bashing they *WILL* get from the more boorish 'fans'.

Then don't make games. Anyone who goes into the gaming business with a fear of being "bashed" is an idiot.

4 - They aren't looking forward to the awkward, and deserved, questions they *WILL* get from the more stable types who don't know what the background story is to the game's development period. Like how much influence MS marketing had on the end product.

Again, don't go into the gaming business then.

12 - They're still watching all the movies they've missed over the past six years.

Do not ever let employees of gaming companies with major company funding EVER convince you they work that hard.

13 - They ARE working hard, they ARE reading the forums, but AREN'T replying, because as any regular on any forum knows, it's way too easy to waste time getting embroiled in a silly debate.

Sheesh, don't be so judgmental, either.
