what are those X shaped strucures i find around base...they keep on blowin me out of the sky

You do know that you can target and identify most objects (debris and rocks excluded) by clicking on them, do you? And when you press F10 after targetting something, you even get additional infos.

Yup, sound like Weapons platforms to me, unless you're talking about the red X's on your map, which are ship wrecks--fly to them and fire a couple of rounds at them to make them spit out some candy. Sweet, sweet candy. (^o^)
