Hmm class 8 Freighter shields but no freighters to use them.

Just noticed browsing through the shields list on one of the corsair bases that there is a Class 8 freighter shield but the highest shields a freighter that a player can get equips up to class 7. Is it just me, or am I missing something here?

I think you're missing something. The Humpback (in Rheinland space) I believe can have up to a Class 10 shield. I think it's the only freighter that the player can buy that can have a class 10

The humpback can only go up to 7 or 8, probably something left in from the beta.

I'll have to actually get into the game again the chance I get to make sure. The book says what I said, but then, I don't completely trust it anymore, because it's been wrong about a couple of things now. Unless there's a patch coming out that meets the same as the book (which might be why it's wrong now, but it might not be later) or they just screwed up big time

The book was probably written during the beta, most seem to be. When it finially goes gold there are almost always a few changes the books get wrong.

The highest shield levels for humpback and dromedary are class 7. Perhaps a hidden freighter in the game or something they forgot to take out...

Maybe the Dromedary? I haven't been able to land on a pirate base yet, so I don't know about the Dromedary... other than that, it should have been the Humpback... other wise what's the point in having class 9 and 10 shields for the freighters?

Mabye bigger freighters were among the game content that was "cleaned up" to get the game shipped. I was a bit disappointed when I had the best cargo ship in the game 30 minutes after finishing the storyline missions (flew down to Rheinland and picked one up).

The game is very focused on combat, with all the random missions being combat oriented, all the most powerful ships being combat ships etc. I think that massive cargo ships should be capable of carrying even more powerful weapons than the smaller combat ships. Right now you can't get higher than class 7 weapons for a freighter.

Trading in Freelancer doesn't seem like something you're supposed to do, other than to get the money to buy one of the VHF class ships. You are free to choose what to do in FL, but if you choose trading (only), there will unfortunately be less game content available to you.
