"fro"?

Well, that's real intelligence.

Instead of answering his question just make a comment about a stupid typo.

In an effort to answer the original poster's question...

DA decided that having the ability to do "trade runs" anytime you want and also having cargo running missions was redundant.

A decision that many of the players find laughable to say the least.

agreed, although you can do "cargo rus", it's always nice to know you're doing it for a reason or higher purpose, also perhaps some more pirating action would be nice...

cargo missions are pointless. You take items from one place to another and get a bit of money, same thing as taking cargo runs without a mission, *except* that you lose the chance to improve your faction a teeny bit

*If you have a cat and a dog in the same house, will that be a problem? Of course not, you might just have solved world hunger*

no, I couldn't understand what you were saying What was "fro" supposed to be???

I've been singing on the they should have lefted them missions in the game band wagon since i downloaded the demo.
I don't see them patching this however, if anything they are most likely to sell it as an add on to milk very dollor they going to get out of it but i'm not going to engage in anymore M$ bashing as we all have already formed our own opinion on the matter.

I repsectfully disagree.

If I spend hours upon hours of time to get friendly enough with a faction that they trust me enough to do a "special delivery" mission for them that they can't trust to just any idiot that docks at the station I feel like some of that time was well spent.

Please, try to remember it is supposedly a ROLEPLAYING game.
And, these little things go far in the way of adding extra depth to actually having that ROLE to PLAY.

But, you are entitled to your opinion, and I to mine.

I also agree with you, Captain/Pyrate.

Remember that one of the random missions is to take out someone and either retrieve or destroy the cargo?

I would like to feel what it is like to do a cargo run with illegal or precious cargo that put me up on *everyone's* hit list. Criminals want the cargo, police and bounty hunters want to destroy it. Just like being an enemy with everyone, but only for the time of the mission.

Post Tue Mar 11, 2003 4:25 am

I tend to agree. Cargo runs could pay extra money, change alliances temporarily, and require you to go long distances...say across a few systems (but have a pretty nice reward too). Maybe the hidden rogue base in one system need a special weapon that's stored at a rogue base in another system, and they need you to transport it. Etc.

Post Tue Mar 11, 2003 4:26 am

Agreed with Dredd also, how cool would it be to have a mission like this:

Mission: Retrieve Goods
Reward: $150,000
"Freelancer I need you to go to ______ Base and pick me up some engine components ASAP. The engine components you are picking up have special biometric signatures and Bounty Hunters have been assigned to track and kill anyone who tries to come and pick them up. They will be hunting you the entire time after you pick them up and try to return them to me."

Or

Mission: Deliver the Plans
Reward: $200,000
"Freelancer I need you to take these plans for our intended raid to ______ at ____ Station. The encrypted computer system we usually use to transmit plans to our allies has been compromised and we need someone to physically deliver them safely. The ______ Navy has on the lookout for any ships flying between this base and ______ Station and stop you if you are spotted as well as the ______ enemy. Be careful to avoid detection and stay out of the trade lanes especially. Good luck to you Freelancer."

The point is, more complex missions such as these would add greatly to the atmosphere and gameplay. The ones now only stay in the same system you are in and are always just a hop and a skip away from your base. This would solve all the people complaining about only having "Go here, shoot that" missions.

Post Tue Mar 11, 2003 4:39 am

But those are still templates, so people would still complain.

Do we really need to be led by the hand for stupid cargo missions? Just buy some goods from a faction you're friendly with, then plot a route through the worst territory in the system, enter the jump gate or whatever, and deliver your goods. There's your danger, suspense, and potential riches all in one tight, customizable package =P

Umm, sorry, but cargo missions are rather fun. I flew those the most in Privateer. They are a lot better then buying things at the Commidity Exchange because you aren't SPENDING YOUR OWN MONEY. I rest my case.

So DA took it them cargo missions out because there "Redundant", hopefully they’ll patch and put them back in....

Anyone know any other missions taken out because of there supposed redundancy?
