Base''s. Can they be Destroyed?

Can main base's be destroyed? I attacked a Junker's Depot near the Sigma 13 jump to New Berlin. I destroyed all the turret's and fired around 20 torpedos at it and it never showed sign's it was even hurt. After killing wave after wave of fighter's and attacking the depot i gave up. In the feature list on the game's web site it say's you can destory pirate base's. Has anyone been able to do this? I was trying to do in a sp game i havent attemted it in multi-player.

In the feature list on the game's web site it say's...

That site is owned and run by Micro$oft.
And you actually BELIEVE anything it says there?

Here is a little tip...

If you ever see "M$" say ANYTHING about ANYTHING assume it is a lie....then you will never be disappointed.

Basically, to answer your question, they bent the truth a bit, or at least state things in a way to make it seem like you actually have options that you truly do not.
In the single-player game you have to attack a base in the first missions, well you actually have to take out it's weapons platforms and another wing of ships destroys it with torpedos...that is an example of "deciding to destroy a pirate base" of which they speak.
The only times you will "destroy a base" is if the stroyline says you do.

You will probably hear the excuse "well they can't let you destroy all the bases because what happens if you have to meet Juni at a base and you destroyed it!". My reply to that is: Other games, like Morrowind, allow you to do things which may make the storyline unfinishable, why does this one treat the players like morons?
If anything, letting you possibly destroy something needed for the story to proceed offeres MORE realism to the game, and offers MORE replayabilty value.

Over-Hyped, Under-Realized.

Anyway, I hope this has answered your questions.

Fly well,

I asked this two days ago.... beat ya to it

*If you have a cat and a dog in the same house, will that be a problem? Of course not, you might just have solved world hunger*

they do have random missions for destroying bases

True, but they're pretty dumb. Just fly out into the middle of nowhere where a magical base appears, shoot it a few times with your photon blasters and kaboom, mission complete.

Why arent there any random missions that require desturction of capital ships?

Dredd... 99.9% of people who meet a question should they load the game because of impossiobility of continuing the storyline... so they pess LOAD... you know... and im sure you would press LOAD too if you can see the HAPPY END =)

You know... i began using comp when i was four years old.... and allways i hear smthng bad on Microsft... Ofcourse nobody's perfect =) But why always to blame them.?? Freespace was a GREAT game... and when storyline was interrupted the.. mission was a faliure too... And everyone was happy =)
