hardcore noobish questions

hello everyone, i'v been reading tihs forum ALOT and i love that post you know you've been playing freelancer too long when... oh those are sooo funny... well more to the subject...

I was reading and i noticed a post about line hackers and such, is it possible for a human player to hack a line in order to destroy a cargo ship?
What is line hacking and how can i do it?

Is this an example of line hacking?
i'm using a trade route and all of a sudden it says Trade lane disrupted, and then i get jumped by rogues or other bad guys?

Also, if i witnessed a fight between bounty hunters and rogues, (both were nuetral) and i started attacking the rogues, would my bounty hunter reputation go up for helping them, would it go up for just plane killing a criminal, or wouldn't change at all...

Torpeedos, what are they for? can they ACTUALY kill stations or other buildings like in the single player new game movie??

Whats it mean when an item is perishable?(I know what perishable means, but does it act as if, i got shot alot or i bounced off rocks the item would be destroyed in my cargo?)

Lastly, I saw a post about a guy doing ROGUE jobs? if possible where can i get these jobs?
and while playing a guy told me he was going to get a rogue viehical etc, how is this possible

sorry for these horribly noobish questions, i only got the game 3 days ago and i played only 10 hours of SP and a bunch of MP..

Oh and to Admins or owner of this forum, in the READ ME FOR FIRST TIMERS or whatever that read before first post thing your link to FORUM SEARCH doesn't work... just thought you'd like to know

see ya, and thank you very much for your time and patients

It's "lane hackers" not line. All you have to do to accomplish this is position yourself at one of the trade lane generators. Shoot is until the shield go out (you can't destroy it). And everyone that was using that lane in that section will be pulled out. Kill and loot away.

Since your first question was answered, I'll start here. Yes, this is an example

Also, if i witnessed a fight between bounty hunters and rogues, (both were nuetral) and i started attacking the rogues, would my bounty hunter reputation go up for helping them, would it go up for just plane killing a criminal, or wouldn't change at all...

They dont really care if you help them per say, but they do care if you kill their enemies. So if you kill enough of someone's enemies, you become their friend.

Torpeedos, what are they for? can they ACTUALY kill stations or other buildings like in the single player new game movie??

Not sure what they would be used for in multiplayer, but in single player you can use them to kill any stationary object like Generators, Battleships, etc.

Whats it mean when an item is perishable?(I know what perishable means, but does it act as if, i got shot alot or i bounced off rocks the item would be destroyed in my cargo?)

If you wait too long, it spoils

Lastly, I saw a post about a guy doing ROGUE jobs? if possible where can i get these jobs?

Only jobs that are possible are the one's you get from Bars.

Fun isnt it

They know, I would say do a Search on why Search doesnt work but.....

No problem

Whats it mean when an item is perishable?(I know what perishable means, but does it act as if, i got shot alot or i bounced off rocks the item would be destroyed in my cargo?)

Actually, that's what "fragile" means. Perishable means it spoils over time. In Freelancer, this means that while you carry this cargo it is slowly decaying. Look at your inventory window while in flight and you'll see a progress bar under the item's icon that is slowly moving. When it goes to zero, one item will be removed from your inventory and the timer will start again. So figure you will lose some percentage of the cargo units you buy as you travel to your destination. How much is something you'll have to discover on your own. Buy a few units and see how long it takes to decay before you commit a bunch of money on perishable or highly perishable goods.

Lastly, I saw a post about a guy doing ROGUE jobs? if possible where can i get these jobs? and while playing a guy told me he was going to get a rogue viehical etc, how is this possible

Some outlaw bases do sell ships. These bases are well off the normal trade lanes and you'll have to be neutral or better with the base owner's faction before they'll let you land. If you're friendly enough, they'll even let you pick up missions in the bar. Keep in mind though that doing missions for Rogues will lower factions with all of their enemies... including the police, navy, and pretty much all the law-abiding citizens of Liberty.

ah, well does selling drugs (contrabands) put up your reputation for rogues or something?

also, if i do rogue jobs and the navy begins to hate me (bah, what else is new?) i will still be able to dock in placed like manhattin etc? i'll just be chased around right??

Selling drugs has no effect whatsoever on your faction with anyone. A good question though, is whether or not you lose faction with police when you refuse to drop that cargo after being scanned. The police will attack of course, but I'm not sure the mere act of them going temporarily hostile on you has any permanent effect on that faction. Not that I care too much. It only happens rarely.

And no, you likely will not be able to dock at Manhattan. I think that's nominally under the control of the Navy. In general, you cannot dock at hostile bases. Bases are hostile if the owning faction is hostile. Also, a base can turn hostile temporarily if you run across an enemy near it that is allied to the base owner. Example: I was friendly with Lane Hackers but hostile to Outcasts. I approached a Lane Hacker base recently and on approach it was green (friendly) until I ran into an Outcast. Then everything in the area went red and I left with my butt on fire. Another example would be getting hostile to a Liberty corporation because you keep blowing up their freighters. You might be neutral to the police, but if you show up outside Manhattan at the same time a freighter convoy from that particular corporation does, everyone will come after you and you won't be able to dock.

Trade lanes and jump gates seem to be an exception. Not sure if it's working as intended, but it seems you can use lanes and jump gates even if they are red on your screen and firing on you. Heck, I didn't even notice gates had guns on them until I took up a life of crime

The scanning by police and your subsequent refusing to drop cargo is only a temporary hostility towards you. If you dock somewhere or just fly away and come back later all is forgiven and your faction doesn't drop at all with them, as long as you don't fire back and kill them

In response to the first guys question:

"Lastly, I saw a post about a guy doing ROGUE jobs? if possible where can i get these jobs? and while playing a guy told me he was going to get a rogue viehical etc, how is this possible "

WEll, there are bases that are rogue, junker, etc. that you can dock on and buy equipment and stuff. But, if your not friendly with that faction, the people in the bar will most likely not talk to you. Jjust say you need a face change or something. Oh and you cant take jobs from the job terminal, which makes it hard to get up faction.

okay, in the new york system, there is a junker base you can dock at called Rochester Station. IT is northeast of planet manhattan, c6 i believe. A lot of rogues hang out there so watch yourself. They sell the rogue bloodhound there too.

*If you have a cat and a dog in the same house, will that be a problem? Of course not, you might just have solved world hunger*

thanks for all the help, just one more noob question(atleast i think its the last)

I wanna have a good rep wit the rogues, BESIDES paying them off, what can i do, just simply attack there enemy (liberty navy etc?)

its kinda sad, so if i'm friends with the rogues, i can't goto manhattin etc... guess i'll need to find another contrabands route... =( and i'll be banned from my home town... even worse...

Post Tue Mar 11, 2003 8:28 pm

actually, theres rogue bases all over but what i find most interesting in New York is Zone 21 (dum dum dummmmm) its like the area 51 of freelancer, a top secret research station inside a extremely dense mine field which also contains a Jump Gate to the Alaska system, quite useful.

anyway, in contrary to what the other guy said, theres actually more than just 1 rogue base in new york **** SPOILER AHEAD ****

Buffalo Base THIS is a ROGUE BASE (they sell bloodhound)

Rochester Base is a JUNKER base (they sell the pirate light fighter)

i cant give you the exact location, thats what exploring is for, but if you kill enough Liberty, just enough so their not friendly, but NEUTRAL should be enough to make you friendly or neutral with the rogues, which in turn allows you to dock at their stations, its also useful because both these bases trade cardamine, and you can smuggle it to manhattan for a HUGE profit, but its a little tricky to get there (with dense police patrols and such) but once you make it you sell your cargo you can exit and let them kill you (smuggling carda doesnt affect your rep) and once you empty your cargo of carda you wont have a thing to lose from dying, so its easy to stay good with them while making a fat profit. have fun! and if you play on multiplayer server E2 i might be able to help you with some of this. btw, if you press Alt-F4 once your caught (this shuts down freelancer) if you come back everything will be back to normal, useful if you almost got caught and blown up. and, once your in good faction with the rogues, they give you missions against liberty usually at their bases

hint: triangulate locations of secret bases w/ patrol routes.

ok, to my previus post about how can i get friendly with rogues without bribing.. screw that i NEED to bribe lol...i got loads of money but i can never find where a rogue bribe or junker bribe is at.. i saw a junker one at the junker base in NY, so i'm gussing there would be a rogue guy in the rogue base...

are there bars in towns that have these guys i'm lookin to bribe? (Lane hackers, rogues, Junkers) so i can visit them and bribe them? because killing cops just wont do, i kill and kill but the cops still love me and the rogues hate me...

or is the apearence of these guys, there location, and what you can bribe them for totaly random?? in which there is no set place i can goto to bribe a guy for rogues etc

thanks, oh and where can i get a REALLY good frieghter (the ships with HUGE cargo) because i'm a lane hacker hehe so i need alot of cargo... thanks guys!

I can't find it in my heart to go pirate in Liberty. I mean... one of those enemy ships might have Juni in it! Arrgh...!
