Does the horrible NPC acting ever improve?

Please tell me there are different voices for the different characters. I just met a bounty hunter in a bar with a red "Terminator" eyepatch and badass haircut and he has the same weasel-like voice as every other character in the bar.

In addition, his dialogue is repetitive and just plain awful:

"You're new here aren't you."
"Yeah"
"I'm so-and-so from the Bounty Hunter's Guild. We don't run this place, but we have an understanding with the people that do."

BLAH BLAH GAWD I HATE MICROSOFT.

Please tell me the dialogue improves later. Different voices, different lines. Anything. I can't take 50 systems with the same weasel-voiced actor.

Everything else seems fun though.

Microsoft didn't make this game.

And no, the NPCs have set voice sets, which you can never have enough of. However, you have to stop at some time, because those voice actors need to be paid.

You can press Esc to skip all the bar dialogue.

The worst is Trents response "uhhhh huh" to the "are you new here" question.

How could they let something that bad into the game.. I just laugh and hit <esc>

I have to wonder why they just didn't use the text boxes (exclusively) for most of the conversations and then only used the "cutscene" type dialog with audio for important conversations (like the campaigns or special information). I know I wouldn't have minded this at all.

Listen guys, I am/was a major fan of Privateer. The repetition was even worse. But I loved every bit of the game. I can deal with minor repetition in the dialog if the game is open and has a great story.

I came. I saw. I conquered. And sometimes get conquered.
"I'm Natrunner, I don't really run TLR but we do have an understanding."

Well... the criminals sound a bit different, and there are robot bartenders as well... but what were you expecting? I am just glad they didn't do the whole thing in text...

I don't mind the fact that there seems to have been 5 voice actors for this game but what I really hate is how horribly the dialogue is delivered. "Hello, I work for.................................................................. Libery Navy...... we...................................... pretty much run this place."

yes it is repetitive, really repetitive, especially the main character, who knows about 2 sentences of spoken english dialogue, in fragments nonetheless, usually like "Uh, huhhhhh.......guess so........have anything for me?.........god, i have heard wet farts that sound more lively

What kinda gets to me is that there are actually different voice actors and different lines.. but they all are still exactly the same! There could be a hundred voice actors behind Freelancer, but they all ask Trent if it's his first time in the bar and then all state that they don't run the place, but do have an understanding with the people who do. There's no variatation to it. I could be hearing a voice for the first time.. but I know exactly what he or she is going to say.

Take it into perspective, guys. Just the fact that they've included these conversations is a helluva lot more than any other game of this type has done. I'm sure the sequel (or FL Online) will improve on it.

I think they should allow you to select which dull response to make:

NPC: Hi. You new here?

Trent:
1) Uhhh-huh.
2) Yep.
3) Got anything for me?
4) (wipe drool from chin) huh?
5) Psssppppttt
6) [Stare blankly into space until NPC gets pissed and leaves)
7) [Soil pants, curl up into a ball on the floor, and start sucking thumb)
