Taking my sweet time

I have about half the storyline missions done ( 6 ) and I have about 30 hours game time so far. I am enjoying this game sooo much. If you take your time..the storyline missions are a nice break from all the exploring and side missions, etc.
Each new system I enter I take my time exploring it, trying to map it completely...doing a lot of side missions and letting Juni wait on me. What a grand game this! I have tons of cash and a awesome ship loaded down with some of the items I have found exploring. I do not care if it takes me until this time next year to finish the story line!

I tried doing that too.
But, Juni kept "disappearing" on me, and forced me to restart too many times.
So, now I just do maybe two mission between Juni's Mission to make sure I don't make "too much" money in between...since I think she disappeared because of my cash level, they seemed to be connected somehow.

And no, leaving the planet I was to meet her at and returning didn't make her show back up, nor did restarting from a slightly earlier save (unless it was one from RIGHT after the last Juni mission, which I didn't always remember to make a save at. *hangs head*).

I am still having a lot of fun with it though.
I play SP during the day, when I cannot connect to the internet due to being on dial-up and not wanting to tie up the phoneline.
And I play MP ALL NIGHT! In fact, I am ingame right now, with it minimized! hehe

Even with it's small flaws/shortcomings you HAVE to admit this game ROCKS and is JUST the shot in the arm the genre needed!

Fly well,

I couldn't wait that long to get further into the story.

Stormtrooper Tactics 101: Okay class, repeat after me. "There he is! Blast em!" Very good.

Uh oh - so if you explore too much Juni disappears and you can't continue the campaign? That doesn't sound right to me (and it's the first I've heard of this). Anyone else run into this problem? (Won't get my copy until next week, so I've just played the demo). WhiteTiger, have you run into this at all? *blinks*

Definitely don't rush, I finished the SP campaign in just under 17 hours, but the rest of the game is great, so i'll be playing for quite some time to come. Hope you don't run into any of the problems people are talking about!

I took the Juni missions as they came. I noticed that your ship can be too powerfull to make the game not challanging. When I took the missions as they came that I ended up with a ship just powerful enough to get through the missions and still have a challange.

Agrees with Greb...

besides, why would she wait for your slow a$$ if the universe was in danger!!

I am about half way through and have a bunch of hours logged even when I answer Juni's call on time.. exploring and not taking job missions between story mission adds to that time.. I have also enjoyed mining.. etc

A few minor plot spoilers here

Generally speaking, I rushed. I was in a Cavalier, still with Drails, until halfway through the plot, and I ran out of cash for repairs and batteries sometimes. Towards the end, I ran a few extra missions - and actually, right after the Rheinland agents visit I actually declined a mission (you never get penalized) because I was broke.

I never bothered with cargo runs and I never had more than around 50-80k in the bank. The last few story missions run together, so have a bit of cash on hand - but there's also a free lump of cash towards the end because of a storyline ship where you can purchase a very very cheap heavy fighter for 1100 bucks or so, which means you get 50k or so for whatever heavy fighter you were flying. Same thing with trading in most of your gear on that ship, for 100 dollar guns and so on. So in the last few missions you get a little cushion of cash for getting new bots and bats.

The only reason I mention this is so that people know they don't have to waste time trying to get together enough cash to start a large scale trading enterprise - at least in single player.

Boy, though, I always was raring to see the next part of the plot. I wanted to explore too, but I'll probobly do a fair bit of that in MP.

guptasa1

I have never had a problem with Juni disappearing. In fact...in over 30 hours of game play the game has never crashed a single time or produced any bugs I am aware of.

In spite of what players have said about the storyline not being challenging if your ship is too powerful...I still find it challenging and actually more rewarding being able to survive in a strong ship after all the hard work.

In response to saying one wouldn't take their time with their universe in danger, no, but then again Trent doesn't exactly come across as the "Superman" type. LOL. If I was a freelancer, I sure wouldn't do the missions or go into an unknown area of space until I thought i was certainly good and ready and equipped as best can be for it. No point going somwhere with a tricycle and a pea-shooter if you can have a tank. That's not saying I'm going to take FOREVER between missions either, but I'm not going to rush - I'm going to wait until I have a ship I'm comfortable progressing in. I just hope I don't run into the Juni not coming back bug (if it is one).

Thanks for letting me know you haven't had any problems, WhiteTiger. Hmmm...I wonder what the difference is for people who have had problems and those who haven't.

I just thought of something about your remark..."why would she ( Juni ) want to wait on your slow a$$?"

Answer me this question...Why did the Brits have to wait on the US when they were in danger of being overrun by the Germans?

There is a proper time to do all things. And sometimes that means "waiting" for the right time.

I'm now in Bretonia and I too am taking my time, I usually end up doing the next story mission when I'm drunk for some reason heh.

I just sneezed.

I have never "lost" Juni or the current contact for the main storyline. I have decline missions and I have ignored their requests for my attention.

Could someone clarify the circumstances that led to someone losing the main storyline?
