Mods...where, when, and how...

Greetings all,


1. I know I saw a link in this forum someplace to where there is, or will be, a central place for getting Mods for FL, but I cannot seem to find it again.
Does anyone know where the majority will be made available?
(NWN has the NWNVault at IGN for example where just about any file for NWN can be found.)

2. How long do ya'll think it will be until we start to see masive announcements of new Mods being released.

3. And to tie into Question #2, does anyone know the best place to gain knowledge on "how to" mod FL?
(I found a couple small things about it, but nothing actually indepth enough to get started it seems.)

Best bet at this point is to keep reading the editing forum. When big breakthroughs, programs, downloads etc start coming, we'll add a Freelancer editing section or something to the like. Lots of folks in the editing forum are seriously talented, ask away in there. That's how I learned the little I know when Starlancer modding was going strong.

Aye, I just went through the editing forum again, it has grown since just a few days ago when I checked it!

Sadly, it seems that the editting forum, and the downloads available from this site, will delay my opening of my FL Server.
It is just too easy to cheat in MP by using files givin away here...even for somebody with NO "hacking/modding" talents. (It as easy as copying a file from one folder to another! ugh!)

So, until we see if this will be addressed by DA/M$ I think I will just stick as a basic player, and not host/mod quite yet.

Cheat?

I thought MP files could NOT be transferred?

Further, I wasn't aware there were even any mods available in the first place.

I won't go into details, but I will say this much...


I read one post in the Editting Forum.
And now could have ANY item/weapon/ship/etc in the game, for FREE(or very cheap), from ANY station I want it from...ALL in singleplayer or MULTIPLAYER .
And all without even knowing how to really "mod" ANYTHING.

I even tested it on my favourite MP Server...on a new character, and then deleted it after the test, I DON'T CHEAT IN MP.

I just don't know how they could have let this "slip" through beta testing!
I mean come on!
When I beta test for a game I try to hack, bash, and cheat everything I can just so they know where their problems are...what is the sense of beta testing an MP game if you don't test for cheats?

The really bad thing is that it would be SO easy to fix!
All they have to do is have alternate data folders for MP play, and have the server ONLY read from that. Move it all serverside and the problem goes away.
Or at least have it compare a checksum of all the data files on the client before it lets players log in.
Yeah, it would add to bandwidth requirements, since all the buying/selling/filechecking would have to travel the pipe.
But, MP is useless if anyone with 1/10 of a brain can be unstoppable in less than 2 minutes of playing time.

So, until it is patched I consider MP a waste of my time as far as hosting.
I will still play, but even that will not last long if it isn't fixed....I just can play a game that is so easy to cheat at.
