system too tiny?

What's the measure of the distance in game? in the combat, the enemy is shown about several hundreds "m" far, if the "m" is meter, the size of the system could be super tiny cuz a jump gate at the edge of a system is only 100.0 k from the center, --the system is only 200,000 m in diameter?
This is really *** if i didn't make a mistake?

EDIT: Why do ppl keep using that word like that? Makes me sad.

If they used the real distances, you'd have taken years to get to that jump gate. And you'd have died before you got to any other systems.

Elite used real distances and systems and I got to Elite in 8 months.

So realism isn't really a problem, as long as you think we can accelerate past light speed that is.
