Nanobots and ranking

Has anybody ever noticed their ranking go down in multiplayer after using nanobots to repair their ship? Or is this just a figment of my imagination?

Actually there's a resonable explanation for that as I wondered the samething...

This even happens in single player, but basically, your nanobot cost 200 credits, so when you use it, your networth goes down by 200 credits since you don't have the money anymore., or this case the nanobot which was worth 200 credits...

make sense?

Using the nanobots will reduce your net worth, but generally, the loss of a few $200 nanobots isn't going to drop you a level.

What's REALLY happening is that your ship is being shot up. This reduces its resale value, which correspondingly reduces your net worth. THAT is the primary factor which is reducing your NW. When you subsequently use nanos, they repair your ship....but using this as a repair method is more expensive than repairing in port, and doesn't fix all the damaged systems, just the hull, thus compounding your net-worth reduction.

This is why the effect is so much more noticeable with nanos than with, say, shield batteries.

The whole net worth method of advancement is sorta whacked.

A friend and I were playing MP and we were pooling resources to buy ships, and whenever one of us would give the other money our levels would drop enormously.
