WARNING!!! Space is BIG

So I was playing FL last night and having a few beers. I guess somewhere around 2am I decided to sit on the couch and take in some TV while making a run to Cali....

So I woke up at 6am and realised I was still on cruise and had obviously run into something...most of my armor was gone....... Got some coffee and pulled up the NAVMAP. I wasnt on it. But there was a red arrorw pointing the bottom left. I go back to first person and select the "far player waypoint"

3000.57 and counting.

Oh ****...there is no OOB wall...

LOL

That's funny. But you probably saved a lot of people from waisting time flying into nothingness for no reason. I know I was curious, especially when I tired it in the demo and I just turned into a red arrow on the nav map. I got about five minutes outside the sector map edge before I got bored and turned around.

LOL to boldy go where no man has gone before

do random encounters keep happening outside the map?

lol... i wonder how many starved pilots are floating about in deep space due to the same reason.

Oh yeah, I experienced this with the demo. I just kept going and going. It's a shame you can't reach the other systems that way...cause I was kinda hoping for that.

Oh well, I suppose I can think of it more like GTA3. Each system is like an island, and the jumpgates are like bridges. To reach another island, you need to use the bridge cause you can't swim.

Well considering that the nearest star to us is 4 light years away and the nearest system to us is even farther away, it seem realistic that we could not from New York system to the Texas system with cruise engines. Maybe we can but it would take millions of years to do it.

Probably destroy space and time.

Yep, I tried to test the limits of the boundries to see how far I could go. I got about 800-K before deciding that it never ends. They use some floating point numbering system I was told, and that I could travel millions of miles.

Hummm I'd think something lke that would happen if you fall asleep at the wheel just like driving somethimes get bored and fall asleep!

in freelancer its almost the same.. except your in space.. fall asleep at the nav map.. you'll be one lost cadet! lol.
