Early impressions with the full version

OK..I have about 3 hours into the full version. I am still in the New York system and Juni is waiting for me on the planet of Manhattan. She will just have to wait some more! I am in no hurry to play the story missions.
I played the demo for about 20 hours game time and was excited to get into the full game. One word quickly comes to mind when I try to talk about Freelancer......

Awesome!

The graphics were really great in the demo...but they are even better in the full game. The detail is sharper and the amount of details are more. I am playing the full version with the same settings as the demo...I checked it to make sure. I think they must have kept the graphics down some in the demo to save space.

The variation of dialog and the people's faces and such has a much larger variety in the full version. I am hearing a lot of stuff now I never heard in the demo.

Some other changes are..the rogues do not allways attack me now. Even tho my rep with them is the same as it was in the demo...full red to the left on the bar.

The intro movie....absolutely awesome! I am glad my faith in the greatness of this game was not in vain. For all you X fans...go play X if you want...I have found my game!

The manager of the EBGames where I bought my copy thinks they did not send her enough copies...she only has 2 left. I am glad I preordered mine!

I ordered from chipsbits.com and it turns out they dont sell the game at the same time as the other online stores. yes, its american based...i dont recommend that store for anything. It said release date was 03/03 but i knnow now it just means march 3, 2003. I wish i could cancel my order but i dont know how

*If you have a cat and a dog in the same house, will that be a problem? Of course not, you might just have solved world hunger*

JT
go buy it at the store, and when your pre order comes, just return it to the store where ya bought the one ya get now.

Don't put off the story missions too long. It's one thing to get some exploration done, but don't go amassing too much wealth. By the time you get wealthy enough for the next story mission to come along you're at the stage where you can *just* accomplish the mission. If I had held off to make an extra 10 or 20k before undertaking each subsequent mission I think it would have been too easy. By taking them straight away they were very challenging, and often at the end of a mission I had that skin-of-my-teeth satisfaction that I love so much; where you get back to base with no shield batteries or nanobots, no countermeasures and you only have 2 blocks of hull integrity left.

On the other hand diving straight in means it's all over so soon, which is one of the things I was bemoaning in my other thread which you replied to.

I guess it's a double-edged sword, but the sensation of fulfillment is greater when you really have to fly by the seat of your pants and earn your victories - not just breeze through missions with barely a scratch because you spent time gathering good ships and weapons before undertaking the story missions.

WhiteTiger, I agree with your comments.. I like the Docking Robots (I dont think these were in the demo, were they?)

This game is huge.. It is going to take me many many many hours to explore.

My early impression is: SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

I would say more, but I need to get back to playing.

No..the docking robots were not in the demo...they are really cool I think.
It is getting tougher for me now I have got out of the "New York" system..*grins.
This game really rocks...and I am going to take my time playing it.

Thanks DVC for you suggestions.

I understand where you are coming form by wanting to earn your way thru the story line missions. But for me...the story line missions will only be a small part of the overall satisfaction I will get from playing Freelancer. So...I will be taking my time...I allways hate to rush something I am enjoying. I hope you can understand that also.
