Freelancer verdict!!!

This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!

What are you talking about? The game has to end somewhere. When you get to the point that you're strong enough to go wherever you want and fight anyone you want, and you're bored, start over and take a different path. Buy different ships, work for different people, try out some of the MODs that people are working on, or make your own. The structure of the game is such that some things can be added to it with a moderate amount of effort.

Gary Bolton was banned from the X forums. He only seems to want to incite flames and generally be pretty unpleasant to most folks. Perhaps the Mods might want to keep an eye on him.....

Haha, he was banned from there too? Sad...

I agree with Ugnaught, X2 has to significantly improve on previous versions to blow Freelancer away. I'm a big fan of the x series, but just because it allows you to own factories in an economically dynamic setting doesn't mean it's the end all be all of space sims.

Combat was generally pretty bad, mostly because of weak AI. I wouldn't have minded a little bit faster pace to the combat as well. Sure you could fly with a joystick, but was that flying really interesting? Tough to say. I have a joystick but found I rarely used it in X during my trading runs.

Just as I would like to see more done well in Freelancer outside of combat (types of missions), I hope X2 does more well outside of trading. To be honest though, I want both games to succeed and both will have a long presence on my hard drive.

Yes I was Banned from there Forum. Because as a newbe I asked some basic questions and got slagged of big time for doing so. Because the Forum Mods did'nt like my responce to this, and there Forum members who made them to me. They Banned me! I could not tolerate there childish behavour in there Forum anyway.

I now have a new IP Address, and I could re-join there forum at any time under a new "User Name" if I wanted. But I choose not to do so. I think that says it all don't you!!!

I still go and read comments in there Forum about the game, and when it will be released because there BAN no longer effect me at all. But thats about as far as my involment with there forum goes! And I wish it to go!

And if there's one thing I have noticed since I was banned. Is how many more people have now left there forum. Some of them were very senior members for many years, with fantastic XT websites. They left because of the slagging off that goes on in ther forum. And the amount of trouble makers there. Oh!, and there MODS inabilty to single these people out, and ban them like they should be doing in the first place.

Even one of there own senoir MODS had enough, and left! And he was a nice guy!

So the point I was telling them before my Ban was placed, has now been proven to be right! And they are now loosing there best members there! Who have more than helped to promote there game. And anyone coming from there Forum to view this thread cannot deny this. Because I can Copy and Paste posting from there to prove I'm right!

I do agree with the comment above that the Egosoft Games lack the Frantic Combat style that Starlancer brought. And they are well lagging behind in terms of this feature in there games. Only time will tell if they have improved on this. They say they have. But until the game is released I cannot comment on this!

You were banned for being offensive and abusive. End of story

Hopefully you'll behave on this one.

The bottom line on ALL these posts is that the POSTER is expecting a Space Combat Sim and Freelancer isn't one. Face that fact and either play the game as it is or move on with life and find something else that IS what you want to play.

Either you like the game or you don't, everyone has their own opinion.
I fail to see why people need to argue about it.

At the end of the day its a simple fact that I loved Starlancer. Even though it was short lived in Single Player mode.

I would have liked to have seen many more people using the MS Game Zone regarding the game. But even from day one when Starlancer was released there has only ever been a handful of people there wanting to play the game. And of course there was always the Latency problem to boot. Even when playing via IP Address with a friend one on one.

As far as Freelancer goes I'm very sorry that a lot of people do not like my comments about the game. But I ain't going to come here and lie! If I thought Freelancer was the best Space Sim out there I would not waste any time in posting this here in the forum. I honestly wish this was the case, and my money was well spent! But sadly it was'nt!

The game in all intense and purposes is way to basic even when compared to the likes of X-Tension, wich is about 3 years old now. The game is also too arcade like!

Some people may like this. But I would have prefared a game based around Starlancer with its great Joystick control, and cockpit view as standard. But with the added realism of X-Tension regarding its Universe and many other features. Then I would have said Freelancer was a great game!

But instead it seems they have tried to emulate some of Egosofts game features into there game like the Trading feature, but on a very limited bases. Which concidering X-Tension is now about 3 years old. Leaves me thinking why does a game thats so old still have far superiour features in terms of gameplay, Features, and lastabilty!

Yes Freelancer has the better graphics, and its fast! But who wants that when 2-3 weeks into the game there is basicly nothing left to do apart from put it on your self to gather dust! Space games are all about Space Exploration. And lastabilty. You can be playing games like X-Tension for Months, if not a year and still find new secrects in the game. So just imagine what "X2" will bring. Because of the "AI Players" now included in there new game. They will build there own Trading Factorys. You could go into am Alien Sector and find new Factorys there, That were not there months before, This would have adverse effects to other things in the game. Features like this make the game playable for as long as you wish to play the game! Just as things should be. This is what made games like Elite so popular. Because you was playing the game for months. And made you feel like you was part of the bigger universe.

Everyone is different, and some people will not like Freelancer. I like it much more than Starlancer, or any other space sim game, for the reasons that some people aren't liking it. Starlancer was just like all the other space sim games that ever came out. You are on a ship, you check your messages, there is a simulator, you get your mission, you fly it and you go. Just like every Wing Commander game, every X-Wing game, and both Freespace games. I like this because it is different. I just got so tired of the same exact game over and over again. I like it because you use the mouse instead of the joystick. Because it takes time to go from one place to another. Because alot of the game is exploration rather than combat. I have played just about every space sim made and just was getting tired of them. Could not get through Starlancer. Can't get enough of this. I'm not disagreeing with the opinion, but I am fearful that some people won't get the game because of some comments. If you are into hardcore flight sims with tons of detail and realism with the flight control and all you want to do is fight, maybe you will be let down. If you want to feel like you are in a real sci-fi world and you like exploration, you will like it. The perfect person is someone who really liked playing Baldur's Gate or Morrowind, but really is sick of fantasy games and who deep down is a sci-fi junkie (or nerd) will love this. This game feels like you are in a good sci-fi movie. Many games have attempted this, but this is the only one that nailed it in my opinion.
