Piracy and Cargo

I've read on the forums and playing on-line of people amassing huge amounts of wealth from piracy.

What I'd like to know, is where do you guys find the unprotected cargo ships? Seems everytime I see a nice fat one traveling by itself, there's always the Liberty police/navy hanging around. Any tips??

Lane-hacking, shoot out the shields of a tradelane, and every ship coming through will stop. If you do it between bases, there is no police/navy/whatever.

Just an occasional bounty hunter or something.(Unless you have bad luck and you lane hack a police patrol... )

That is what they mean by "lane-hacking."

When I get home tonight I'll have to pick off a few fat merchants and take their loot for sale. To bad I couldn't paint a jolly-roger on my ship. hehe

Speaking of this, those Rogues must be incredibly stupid...
In my most recent game, I was travelling through a trade lane that was suddenly disrupted. Two rogues were planning mischief, and started shooting at me. In one minute, there was like 30 ships shooting at them, police, navy, traders, bounty hunters, plus me.

Must've been one of the Naval lines. Whenever I encounter a disruption there's usually 2-4 rogues and me. Occassionally there'll be a bounty hunter hanging around but not very often.

whenever I lane hack... I just make sure i have lots of thruster power and javelin missiles...so i destroy the cargo ships..(of course) and tractor in their cargo then make a run for it. i made something like 4k on one shot! that was good enough for me to get that beautiful defender at Missouri.

Galileo is a great place to pirate at the 'bends'. Just sit and wait until A nice cargo comes by. When it is going to 'activate tradelane sequence' for one of the bends, kill it if its just one cargo ship... if its more than one, 'hack' the tradelane it is entering and blast multiple ships. You have the choice of a Rogue or Lane Hacker base to land/sell/repair on in that system. That, and a nice nexus of jumpholes which are well placed near bases... or rather, the bases were well chosen near jumpholes. Hudson is also a great place to pirate for similar reasons.

I have made like 5.8k in one shot of piracy. I think it was 6 units of engine components which I sold for 974 each. SWEET! and Im only level 6!!

In the demo (still haven't got the full version yet D: ), I would come out of rochester base and all the rogues hated me. So there'd be like 6-8 ships firing at me already. I would look for a Mule and if there was one, I'd kill it and tractor its stuff. If i'm lucky it would have about 15-20 daimonds for me

ive made a nice fat 17k in 1 raid.... got a full load of H-Fuel and a very nice price

but what annoys me is... that was in SP..... in MP i cant get anything more than 4 units out of 1 ship, no matter how much it had to start with :/...........

What is "hacking" the trade lane?

Post Fri Mar 07, 2003 12:40 am

It's actually pretty easy to get a big chunk of the cargo from the Trains and Heavy Lifters.

I haven't seen this posted yet so here you go:

The Trick is to target their cargo holds (The big tanks or crates they are carrying). You can't target them on your ship computer though; you just need to be a good shot. I usually attack from above or below depending on the ship type so as much of the cargo tank is exposed as possible. You'll see this part of the ship take damage and explode, releasing more cargo then you'll probably be able to handle. Try to avoid actually blowing up the ship itself. If you're a good shot you should be take to blow all four cargo tanks without destroying the ship.

Good Luck & Happy Fishing!

I bump this exactly what is lane hacking.

I am making very profitbaly drug and gun runs, but small arms at detroit munitions sell them for twice the price at the Junkers Base in Texas where I load up on cotrataband and sell it back at New York. Takes awhile but my profit on small arms is 11,000 a trip cotrabad is 15,000 and when I get enough money to load up a full Rhino worth it will be 24000. Basicaly think there should be stronger reprocutions for working out side the law.

I made 290k in one shot when I destroyed a cargo filled up with silver ;P

Mees with the best, die like the rest
