I reenabled rolling

Ok, I went through some of the demos files and was able to enable rolling. Though many people thought it wasn't necesary, I like being able to manually allign myself with stuff and its also useful for faking people out in combat... eg you roll right and people expect you to still pull up and go right, but instead, you turn left and go right over the top of them... roll is useful. I'm going to try and renable zoom and other features as well... basically you need to edit two files, UserKeyMap and keymap.ini

I'd put the file up if I had webspace

Can you just tell us how to edit to have the rolling please? I'd love to have it assigned 2 keys for moving left and right and 2 other keys for rolling left and right.

yeah, sorry for the abrupt post, I was just leaving to do some more testing. Its pretty simple how to do it.

go to your UserKeyMap file and add

[KeyCmd
nickname = USER_Z_ROTATE
key = 81

[KeyCmd
nickname = USER_Z_UNROTATE
key = 69

this assigns the roll to Q and E

and then in your keymap.ini file add this under IDR_COCKPIT

key = USER_Z_ROTATE
key = USER_Z_UNROTATE

The reason I didn't post right away is because for some reason your ship does rotate, but as soon as you switch to external cam, whether you have auto leveling enabled or not, your ship will auto rotate back.

Nice find!

There's an option in options to disable Auto Leveling.

hmmm, thats not it though, when you switch to third person even with auto level off, it undoes any angle you've rolled to and won't allow you to roll... I'll have to hunt around a little bit more and you're all welcome to as well...

where is the userkeymap file?

Post Tue Mar 04, 2003 4:56 am

I tried doing this and get errors when trying to play the game, the .ini file is not in a standard format, it's a bunch of jargon followed by a bunch of entries all pushed together, not as easy as just adding it under IDR_COCKPIT because it doesn't really have it's own section.

and then in your keymap.ini file add this under IDR_COCKPIT

key = USER_Z_ROTATE
key = USER_Z_UNROTATE

that just messed up the demo.. thatl teach me!

Post Tue Mar 04, 2003 5:05 am

Yeah, it screwed mine up too but no biggie. Even after backing up the files after trying to alter them I couldn't recover the demo to a playable state. I don't blame anyone but me though, my fault for trying it hehe.

yes, the INI's are compressed, head over to the editting format and DL a nifty ini decompressor that turns those nasty ini's into plain text.

Post Tue Mar 04, 2003 5:36 am

i tried it, it didnt screw the demo up for me but it didnt do nothin for me either

Post Tue Mar 04, 2003 5:39 am

seems like there is a pretty cool game waiting to be unlocked in the ini

Post Tue Mar 04, 2003 6:15 am

it doesn't work in free flight... sorry I never use freeflight so I hadn't noticed that. It also doesn't work in third person... there must be a file somewhere that disabled it in freeflight and thirdperson... I'll keep you posted

you can also just spin the mouse pointer in a big circle. Make a circle clockwise to roll right, counterclockwise to roll left
