Something Weird.... help!!

OK, maybe I'm not understanding how this game works or something:

I'm at a level, trying to move up to the next level. The game seems to ramp you up a level when your worth passes a certain amount. You supposedly increase your worth by gunning down other ships in missions and freelance work, and salvaging equipment from space.

OK, so I've been following along, and steadily moving up levels, until recently. Now when I go out on freelance assignments, say for $4000 or so, my net worth goes up $4000. But then when I sell whatever equipment I salvaged (weapons and others), my net worth seems to go down the amount I sell....but only sometimes it seems. It's frustrating because I don't appear to be getting any closer to the next level.

Am I missing something here??

What version of the game you playing?

Keep getting more money. Items on your ship will usually be worth more than you sell them for, so your net worth is more when you hold onto things. But that takes cargo space. So just keep flying missions and buying better equipment, you willl level up.

OK, thanks for the feedback.

But that still doesn't explain why my money is actually going down, or does it? If you keep an item it will give you more worth??!?! Strange....very strange.

The item is WORTH money, therefore it contributes to your WORTH. You probably have to sell it for less than it is worth, so your worth goes down. Makes sense.

Well yeah, because technically, if you were to buy a weapon, it'd cost more than the money you'd get selling it back. So it's worth more to YOU when you have it. If you got the weapon from another ship, well...free money =)

And when you buy goods at a low price, they're worth more than what you paid because in some systems they're in demand. So your net worth kind of shoots up for a relatively small price. Then you go sell them somewhere, net worth will change depending on what you charge compared to the average value of the item. The last bit is speculation on my part, gathered from some other threads I've seen around here.

OK, so I'm being partially dense. I didn't realize that as soon as you load stuff onboard from salvage it upped your worth right away. Yes, that would explain why it's going down after I sell stuff. Thanks all!!

so is this the end of this topic? just to contribute... i know from experiance that when you sell items on yourship your worth goes down and when you buy itmes from the commodity traders...you worth goes up
