Play MP first

I recommend that you and some friends play MP together before you play the SP campaign. Take some time and explore all the systems and everything for the first time, without the campaign missions looming over you and restricting you, or forcing you to do something. I only partialy played through the SP campaing, I got stuck on a mission. Frustrated, I went online and had a blast exploring all the areas I never visited before with some people I met. Try running a rhino convoy full of diamonds from new berlin to new tokyo, its definitly a fun challenge.

For some people, I would recommend SP first. The FL universe is pretty darn big, and from what I understand, the SP kinda walks you through it so it'll be a little easier to digest that way. Plus you'll know which systems to visit when (i.e. like not going to Rhienland in a Liberty Defender and lasting all of 5 seconds).

True, but it is still fun exploring. You don't have much to lose by being killed while exploring a new system, plus with a little luck you can escape from some really hairy situations even in the dinkiest ship.

You can make your own online game and explore to your hearts content. But...I will do the story line . I like the challenge. Muliplayer is for those who need it. I do not.

the entire "universe" is not that big, actually. and mp isn't for those who need it. how would you need it? you can't get mp help to complete sp missions. two separate things. mp is the sp game without the campaign, but with friends.

Not that big? I do not think you have done much exploring. I have played the demo with the same save game file ( no hack...just watch my net worth ) for 18+ hrs of game time and I am still finding new stuff in the New York system !

What I meant about MP being something players need is...some players like to play with freinds in MP, thereby fullfilling thier need for social interaction...nothing wrong with that. I get mine when I play golf. When it comes to computer games...I just like to relax and play the game at my own pace.

I don't play MP to fulfil my need for social interaction. I play it because I simply find it more fun.

there are ways to use both.

sp for mapping and stuff.

like if you dont know wheres what and u need to know or u die, use the sp.
and then go to mp for the real thing. sp is basiclly a trainer. and mp is better because its better than sp, sp you have to complete the first mission and from what i understand in mp u do not.

Man, did I make the mistake of doing that in a defender!. Luckily I made it out after some kind soul (Loodich) gave me directions to Texas....only to die in the mine field around the "your not suppose to be here" jumpgate behind one of the battleships.

Honest to goodness, the first time I went to Hudson, as soon as I arrived, before I even had control of my ship, I was dead. I didn't see what did it, probably Hessians, but they were waiting on me and killed me quick.

Most likely Xenos in Hudson. They fly Hawks there (bad movie reference?)
