Target your ship you want then In your bottom left display click the ship icon second from the far right at the top of the display. This will put the schematic of the ship in the display instead of a list of ships and you can click on the different parts then fire away at it.

Does targeting specific parts increase the chance that they will fall off, so you can
tractor them in? Also is it possible to get a shield from a enemy? I have never got
one.

Might be worth it to pick a fight with some real nasties to get their guns !!

lol shoot the primary cannon off the battleships and equipt them lev 15 gun hahaha. iv gotten a shild off an enemy b4 very very rare though iv goten engines too

I haven't really tried on enemy ships, but you can target the cargo "boxes" on freighters so you don't have to kill them to get their goods.
I think it helps you keep your faction while still being a pirate.
