That did happen to me early in the demo...I was expecting the computer to keep me safe! After that..I would watch how close I was getting to the planet and takeover manually if I felt I needed to.

The other day a funny thing happened..I was flying very close to the planet Pittsburgh when I got attacked by some Rogues..one of them overshot me on his attack run and burned up in the atmosphere!

Once again, the little things like this count...this game rocks!

It does, for the palyer at least
You can try it out by going to a place where there the planet is between you and (for example) the docking rings of that planet. If you select Fly To, it will go right at the planet, but just above the atmosphere it wil go out of cruise, steer very violently, and get you into a sort of orbit.

But the AI of the NPC ships sometimes screws up

Ever tried ramming a ship trying to go through a jump gate by propping yourself in the middle of the hole? If you nail incoming ships head on and knock them off course, sometimes they'll continuously ram the surrounding gate architecture until they explode.

ROFL, like pinball! That happens sometimes when your flying in the badlands, in formation with a patrol. You're on cruise, then you hit one rock, richochet into another, and by the 3rd you're scrambling for the freeflight so you can cut your engines. Hilarious...

how? that hole is huge!

actually it does guide you around it. just not if ur piloting with ur mouse or manually or if u put the "go to" thing on the actualy planet, it also helps to like stop before you get to teh atmosphere.

The autopilot (essencialy the AI) is really bad when it comes to large unmanuverable ships. Earlyer today the AI made my humpback do 2 complete circles before docking with a station. I-War 2 has a similar problem with sluggish ships.

LMAO I observed a big ship (I don't know what it was but it was bigger than most ships you see flying around while not on missions) doing that to the back of a britonia carrier/destroyer/whatever it was. It was funny it looked like it was doing something... naughty. Until it blew up. Damn try not to muse on this one it can get disturbing.
