Trial Version performance?

I've seen some chatter about the Radeon 9700 having problems with the Trial Version. That makes me a bit worried. Will the final retail version have the same issues?

I've also seem some folks that say "wait until the new 3.2 catalyst drivers come out" ... "the problem will be solved then". Why the hell would a developer release a game that has a problem with one of the most prominent/fastest video cards on the market today?? This seems like a problem that needs to be corrected on the devs end, not ATI.

Thoughts?

geforce are the most prominent. But to fix your prob alls ya got to do is lower your acceleration by one notch. Its not the devs fault that radeons have faulty drivers.

Thanks for the tip -- after some digging, that's what I found out also. Shame.

But, PLEASE, don't mistake me for an ATI fanboy. I just hate spending big bucks on a card and have it not work 100% on a new game. I just wish nVidia would catch up already! Would much rather have a GeForce. Just my opinion.

I must say, after moving the slider down a notch, the game runs incredibly smooth. Looks SOOOOO good on my 9700 Pro now. No jaggies...i'm buyin this one!

Thanks! Now I just hope the sound effects are better with the retail version.

I had a Gforce 4, but not a single game would work. Well, actually they worked, but they only worked for about 2 minutes and then the computer would reboot. I'm not sure if it was a geforce 4 problem or because i had a single irq WAAY to overloaded. I got a new video card and now everything works. Im happy...

Wow, this is the first thread I've ever read concerning nVidia cards having problems, let alone a card not being able to play ANY games (sounds like a faulty/damaged card to me). I have two myself, a GF3 on my old desktop and a GF4Go 440 for the laptop I use now, and I've had no problems with any games. A lot of ATI owners, on the other hand, have always had driver problems. I hear now they're getting better, but then this Freelancer problem comes up...

As for my performance, I run the game at defaults (1024x768x32 with all settings maxed except AA), and it runs smooth as silk.

my geforce 4 mx works great for this game!

Well, its not a major issue. When you turn down Hardware Acceleration by a notch is just turns off hardware cursor, that all. So when they get it fixed you will see no difference in quality or performance, except when menus come up.
And yes ATI has come along way with their drivers. IMO ATI will become the new top dog. It is already starting. My prediction is that when their drivers are of the same quality or better then Nvidia, ATI will be the preferred Video Card.

Well...I have never had a good experence with ATI video cards. I remember a few years back buying one and had problems with it and calling thier tech support and the guy could hardly speak english! I finally gave up and took that card back. And then I bought a Radeon 9500 pro not too long ago and installed it in my computer and could not get it to work properly, even with the latest drivers. It kept having a hardware conflict with itself! So I took it back and got a Geforce4 MX440 and it installed and ran without a single problem. It has ran all the games I have tried flawlessly.
