A way to have escort missions

This is for you guys who want escort missions.

Locate a cargo ship and use the "join formation icon". Escort the ship unitl it safely docks. If any ships attack it... kill them and tractor in the stuff they drop and sell them...if the ship does not make it to dock..your escort mission has failed.

Everytime you buy a commodity and take it to someplace to sell it...you have a "carry cargo to certain location ' mission.

Any computer game can be enjoyed more if you use some of your imagination.

Thats right....

How about I just play Privateer which has all those things, and imagine the graphics are awesome.

Post Sun Mar 02, 2003 4:06 pm

Yeah..you could do that...but then you would miss out on all the stuff Privateer lacks that Freelancer has...a lot more content and weapons you can pick up in space battles and mount onto your ship for one. Privateer did not have over 160 places to land. It had 70 systems you could go to...but some of them did not have a single place you could land on. Loved Privateer..but Freelancer is better in a lot of ways.

OK...I just checked the info on Privateer...it had close to 70 systems , but only a little over 50 places to land on. So...it would seem Freelancer has about 3 times the amount of content as Privateer. Let us not forget the 31 ships you can fly in Freelancer versus the 4 in Privateer!

I agree with WhiteTiger on this one. Freelancer is huge compared to Privateer, and I don't miss the escort type missions at all. If I am feeling nice, I like to join formation with the police or a group of transports and run their waypoints with them or escort them. I think that is one of the most fun ways to play this game. The universe is so alive that it is just a blast to take part in. It's also fun to form up with pirates and help them take down cargo ships, I get such satisfaction from blasting a transport to hell right as it tries to enter the trade lane.

While we're at it lets be sure to mention that every single one of the people in every bar on every planet says the EXACT SAME CANNED DIALOGUE.

Btw, I don't own this forum thread, but I have an agreement with the people that do.

At least in privateer the people had attitudes. Those religious nuts were distinctly different from regular pirates and police were totally different both in tone and behaviour. All you got in freelancer is 25 or so factions that all act exactly the same.

Freelancer has a lot going for it, but variety is not one of them.

Since when did Privateer have random escort missions?
Unless you're talking about story missions... in that case Freelancer has escort story missions too.

Yes, join a formation and fly with them is funny, but in the trial version isnt so much fun because you cant go in other star systems
I must wait until Friday for my FL UK-Version

Requiem;
The people in the bars all say the same thing? You are wrong there my friend.
Try to be subjective in your disapproval of some of the things in Freelancer. I have noticed a lot of variety in the words used by the people in the bar.

The other day..I was on a mission to kill some rogues...after I finished he mission I joined in formation with a heavy liberty Police ship..a little later some rogues showed up..but guess what..they would not attack me! I hailed them and they said..."what the hell do you want?" Then I hailed them again and they said ,
" you are starting to anoy me" I laughed and they flew off quickly...not wanting to mess with me while I was in formation with the police heavy fighter!

Who said this game does not have great content? I sometimes get the feeling some X2 fans are here to try to get Freelancer to fail. Or just the real picky players who are ticked every single thing they want is not in the game.

Let me first say this Game roqs. I am soooooo enjoying the demo, can't wait for the release.

Thats said, there could be a bit more deversity (sp?). We could have the escout missions that everyone is talking about. But there are so many more as well. For instance, there could be a sort of mission where u simply have to tail somebody and wait till they land and report back. There could be missions where space docks are expecting and attack and are looking for anyone, everyone to defend the base agaist an all out attack from the Outcasts. There could be a guy looking for a certain commodity and is willing to pay very well for it. I'm pretty sure there are a thousand more.

Anyway, the game still roqs and I'm still gonna play it. Can't wait to get online

my 2 cents

I agree and disagree with Tiger on this one..

I agree that joining formations do add "mission types" to the game..

Unfortunately, however, Almost ALL of the enemies will not be going after the frieghter you are escorting but going after YOU instead. This is a flaw with the AI in my opinion, otherwise, yes, the formation escort missions would be more fun.

As it is now, it is just too easy to protect the convoy because the enemy wont be firing at it! (at least in my demo experiences)

Elaborating on dredloch's post, not only does it seem the enemies concentrate their fire on you in this instance, but it seems they ALWAYS concentrate their fire on you. If I'm minding my own business and I'm coming out of a trade lane while there is a fight going on admist the exit, it seems one or occassionaly both parties (if both are hostile) will concentrate their fire on me.

if(inDogFight == TRUE) {
if(gettingAssKicked == TRUE) {
screwTrent();
} else {
killTrent();
}
} else {
killTrent();
}

hehe, wish it was that simple

Yeah, I noticed that no matter what, even there is one outcast or summin and he is being nailed by like 20 navy patrols, they ALWAYS come after you. I hope stuff like this will be added into the first patch of the release. I'm also wondering why people don't pick these sort of things up in the BETA. Surely they don't JUST test for bugs, but also playabilty and stuff ???
