Any morality?

So much hacking already, for such an unreleased game.
Come on people, the object of gaming is to have fun...not show how quickly you can ruin an environment.

Well,...

that's a negative view to it.
you can view this way as well.

By hacking they can also improve the game
How do you think mods are made?!

Gotta agree with Locutus on that one Indigo. With the editing geniuses such as HCl (Big time welcome back Mario!!!) stats editors are going to come out. We had many editing programs in Starlancer, just like we'll see soon in Freelancer, but it's up to the individual to use them or not. Personally, I got through SL about a dozen times before I played with the editing tools, then the game got a bit dry and adding ships, changing stats etc added life back to the game. I've been playing with Mario's FL ini editor today, and will certainly have fun with it, but definitely play the game through at least a few times first. The missions are tough at times, but not impossible.

But, the plus side is that new ships, random missions and scenery will come from the editing tools.

Multiplayer cheating is another issue entirely though.

My comments are intended to apply to multiplayer. The single player editing can encourage/enable multi player hacking/cheating. That's all I'm saying. Single player cheats are bound to happen, and it's almost impossible to prevent.

I'm a computer Programming major, and we spend hours every term in various programming languages going over the morality of programming. It is an academic standard NOT to corrupt software. I just don't wish to see a game with such potential be ruined by hacking, cheating losers.

Forgot to add that I think Freelancer multiplayer will be a lot more interesting when more people actually get the full game and participate online.

I admit to a try before I buy attitude but that's only because most of the games released in the last two years have sucked. I want good games so I try them first. If it is a good game, like this one, I buy it. Not because of a guilty conscience but because I want to support the people that put the time and effort in that it takes to make a entertaining game.

I'm all for the single player cheats for after you "finish" the game or think you finished it anyway hehe. I'm totally against any kind of multiplayer cheating and hope that is dealt with. You have to admit that after you play a single player game for a long time it's fun to throw on god mode and infinite ammo and fly anywhere you want without fear of damage, let's you really see the game inside-out.

Aren't the DA guys going to implement some software that checks if the server/client files are the same?
(Like: if the server says your ship can go 80, and the client's hacked files that it can go 160, the client gets kicked of the server)

Why? i much prefer owning a copy of the real game?

I have to wait till april to get it :/ UK date behind

Im gonna get a copy just to play with till then, then buy it.... im not talking utter bollocks. Get better quality when u actually buy a proper game, pirate copies can be riddled with crap and sometimes dont patch proply, too much effort ....

And the developers do deserve it some of the time :p
