Tachyon-like Maneuvers

Has anyone beeen using the cut engine key? I mean besides just to go "Hey, it doesn't stop automatically. Physics at work!" It's actually pretty cool.

When you turn off the engine, you continue in the direction you were facing in when you cut them, and you can look in any direction like Turret View, except that this lets you put your FRONT GUNS to bear on anything around you. And what's even better is you can boost then cut the engine, so that the ship doesn't slow down to "sitting duck level" for quite a while.

This brings me to the title of my post. After doing your pseudo-turret view with your ship, you can turn the engine back on and it will shoot back to full speed in the direction your facing, just like Tachyon: The Fringe's special Sliding technique.

Sliding was also in Starlancer I believe....
To be honest, I think sliding began with the grandfather of Space sims, Wing Commander. I think you could perform something called the afterburner slide in the game..

Oh, well I just remember Tachyon making a big deal about their version of it, if what you say is the case. So anyway, does anyone use it?

I do sometimes, in large furballs. Things get real rough when you have 5 Rheinland fighters on your tail..

In Tachyon, it was cool to hit your afterburners to get up to full speed, then hit your slide key. You'd continue at the speed while your afterburners charged back up. Good for covering large distances.

Stormtrooper Tactics 101: Okay class, repeat after me. "There he is! Blast em!" Very good.

I guess you can do that in this game too. Hasn't passed my mind since I haven't needed to burn that long, yet...

I do what I must, when I must...

I somehow hit 350 doing that.

I took the pic after it took me a few moments to realise how fast i was going, and then after a few moments of flipping out, so its a little less than 350. But I DID hit 350
