"Let me scan you while you get shot to pieces"

I like how the "Police" or "Military" wont lift a finger to help you when youre neutral or not "green" for them, even when getting demolished exiting a base of theirs. Hey asshole, how about scanning the 10 bounty hunters tearing my ship apart outside your front door?

LOL I like your take...hehe
Makes you want to hunt the cops.

Post Fri Feb 28, 2003 6:20 pm

Heh, you made me smile, good for you
It makes you wonder tho, the quality of cops in NY

Post Fri Feb 28, 2003 6:25 pm

Yeah agree! I will be a pirate and my main targets will be those bounty hunters due to they always want to blow you to space dust. Yes the cops just sit their too and eat their Krispe Dough's. Like you said going to get a couple of them too but Bounty's are double crosser's and I will get most of them. Kinda like trader's they always want the better deal like the bounty's never pay you as much as they tell you most time! Happy Hunting!

Heh, I might be wrong, but aren't Bounty Hunters actually allied with the cops, and only attack criminals?
Thus, it probably wouldn't make sense for the cops to shoot their friends.

Post Fri Feb 28, 2003 7:14 pm

Oh, I see...

If I am friends with the police I should be able to go down to the station and shoot civilians coming out, and expect the police to watch.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Well, if you blow up civie transports, that make you a criminal. Cops kill criminals. If a bounty hunter attacks you, that means you have probably done some criminal things, so cops won't help you.

Post Fri Feb 28, 2003 7:19 pm

Well, it's not like the bounty hunters just shoot random innocents, right?

Atleast according to their faction description, their only enemies are known criminals.

Thats the problem, Ill be neutral or neutral-good, and havent done anything wrong. You did play the demo diddnt you? Youll be red with the bounty hunters long before you ruin any rep with the police.

Weird... I played the demo for hours, and never had any problems with the BH's whatsoever.

Post Fri Feb 28, 2003 7:34 pm

Oh ok, since you havent had probelms with BHs, then that explains why the Police do not "police". Thanks for the hot tip, detective.

Haha, see my thread, "The hostile AI almost destroys the fun...". Same idea. I love it when I warp in and see the police fighting some pirates, and then as soon as I arrive the pirates break off to attack me and the police go fly around aimlessly.

Hey Maus, Ever stop to think that someone or some faction you ticked off put a price on your head, you appear to have the manners of a bull in a china shop so it is conceivable that you are wanted dead and the police have been paid to look the other way.

Turns out that in todays world the police are sometimes involved with committing crimes but who is to enforce the law when the only law enforcement around is the one breaking the law.

The other day I saw a state trooper backing down the shoulder of an off ramp on I-5 so he would not have to complete the exit and get back on the interstate. no lights, just finished writing a ticket and to lazy to follow the law... why? because there is noone who could stop him.

Same thing you hear about ppl in the big city walking right past muggings taking place and refusing to get involved, do you have to be a police officer to ignore what is the honorable thing to do?

I think I read somewhere about FL that while you cannot be friends with all factions in the game you can be at odds or enemies with all sides.
Cheers,
Lynx

best way to get the cops to help you is either find a large patrol or lead the ppl u dun like to a base (in my case it was fort bush) funny thing was about that, rouge reinforcements arrived so that took another 6 minutes (2 minutes per ship) and i didnt know there was friendly fire. i got caught in a cross fire between bush and rouge...

-I trade for a living, rouges piss me off, come get me, catch me if you can, i will leave you in the dust, or you'll die trying, take your pick.- #Part of the traders protection pact# @Heretic Inc. We trade because we own.@

The thing with hostiles ignoring other enemies when you come in sight is another remainder that this is more of an arcade shooter than a space sim. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but you probably shouldn't expect "realistic" behavior from NPCs within an arcade shooter. It's basically designed to create a lot of encounters where you have to shoot things up.

IMHO, it would have been a bit more interesting if the police tried to stop all combat close to the bases, regardless of participants. Unless it was the base itself that was attacked, that is. Having swarms of ships doing combat right outside a base should be considered a danger to the base which the police, I'm guessing, are there to protect.

That way you could choose if you wanted to be a hero and combat the hostiles attacking the base, or be a greedy merchant and sneak of with your cargo while the hostiles are busy fighting the police.
