How do you drop out of a trade lane?

Is it possible to manually drop out of a trade lane while you are traveling thru it? eg: You changed your mind about your destination....

Hit esc, it acts as a cancel button on your destination.

And if I may add, when forced to drop out, after defeating the bad guys, who do you get back in?

You can just run, you get back in by selecting the nearest docking ring after the one infront of you when you get dropped out of the trade lane, then heading for it - dock with it and you'll rejoin the lane. As I said if you don't want to fight whoever dropped you out of the lane you can just hit cruise and make your fastest way towards the next trade lane ring, rejoin and run again.

Easy enough, thanks! To answer the question as to how to get back in after being forced out, I think you just dock with the next available frame of the trade lane...

Dropping out a lane manualy saves a lot of time when you have to go somewhere far from a base.
So you don't have to cruise all the way.
