Can you hire wingmen/guards?

In the full game, will you be able to hire wingmen/support, like for tough missions, or for longer cargo runs?

The answer is more tricky than a simple "no".
If you're attacked by someone, if you have good realationship with their enemies, you'll see help coming. BTW I noticed that Outasts tend to help me more often than Liberty Police did when I was on their side.

Why would you pay for a service that is available freely...
Just team up with a convoy heading the same direction you are...

And otherwhise, just pay someone in multiplayer to escort you.

Just join formation with some allies.
You can protect them and they will protect you.

In Multiplayer you could also 'hire' players as guards, simply use the chat pane and ask for an escort, im pretty sure many pilots would take the oppurtunity to escort a freighter ;-)

Then simply pay them the fee you promised through the trade panel, and your set =p
