Planets should be bigger

Personaly, I would have liked if it were more realistic. But the smallish nature of the systems does have a nice feel to it, being able to jaunt around without too much fuss. In i-war 2 they had to resort to the LDS, which actualy let you travel several times the speed of light. Too bad you can't actualy arrive somewhere before you even left in that game..hehe. But that game had an awesome huge epic feel to the space environment.

666heretic:

No, what I meant was that the Freelancer website actually describes the planet in SI units -

Diameter: 12,753 km.
Mass: 5.98 x 10e24 kg.
Terrain: Terrestrial
Temperature: -46°C to 43°C
Escape Velocity: 11.27 km/sec

Correct figures for planet Earth (from The Nine Planets web site http://seds.lpl.arizona.edu/billa/tnp/earth.html) -

Diameter: 12,756.3 km
Mass: 5.972e24 kg
Escape Velocity: 11100 m/s (from a physlink.com)

And I was wrong about the escape velocity, they do have the correct figure. When I first read it I thought I saw an extra 10e3 in there. My mistake.

Yes the problem is Freelancer doesn't have something equivalent to LDS, it has cruise, but that wouldn't be nearly fast enough if the planets were realistically sized.

btw, I didn't realize the planets were supposed to be real. I thought they were like giant space stations or something...

so the planets are all scaled acoording to eachother correctly, but relative to ships? well, your ship is how many meters? and what about the docking rings?

considering at 11 kilo meters a SECOND, you take a lil over a second to pass a ship 10 (not-kilo) meters away, either the speedometer is telling lies, or everything else needs to be 10x bigger, and the people need to be smaller.

omfrjc it's only a ****ing awesome game

well again, look at it from the game

if you look at the sizes of the ships in comparison to the planets
let us for instance look at the rhino from the view in the spaceports and planets
it looks about half the size of a space shuttle so in comparison to let us say the planet manhattan the planets are anything but small it's just because the rhino looks small on-screen the planet also looks small.
so there's the solution to the "problem"

It's a game - it's fiction... Please move onto a different topic, thanks! *CLICK*
